The Allegheny Mountain Chapter of the National Association of Teachers of Singing (NATS) recently held their annual Student Auditions Competition at Susquehanna University. Several Messiah College voice majors competed, with the following students winning their divisions: Sarah Adams, Upper College Music Theater Women (student of Elaine Henderson); Paige Waldron, Lower College Music Theater Women (student of Elaine Henderson); Ian Bethmann, Sophomore College Men (student of Damian Savarino); and Britney Yauger, First-Year College Women (student of Damian Savarino). The following students were named semi-finalists: Johanna Harcrow, Senior College Women (student of Elaine Henderson); Persephone Marien, Junior College Women (student of Elaine Henderson); Kiya Jackson, Sophomore College Women (student of Damian Savarino); and Autumn Deck, First-Year College Women (student of Damian Savarino). Dr. Raeann Hamon and four students from the Department of Human Development and Family Science attended the National Council on Family Relations Conference, November 11-14 in Vancouver, British Columbia. Raeann organized a symposium entitled “Innovative Strategies for Teaching Family Theories” and presented a paper within it: “‘What do you have to offer me?’: A Relationship Building Activity for Demonstrating Social Exchange Theory.” Hamon was also one of five presenters in a symposium entitled “The Scholarship of Teaching and Learning in Family Science Academic Careers,” which was selected to be live-streamed. As a fellow, Dr. Hamon was invited to lead a roundtable on the topic of “Advancing the Discipline of Family Science”. The HDFS students attended poster and plenary sessions, gleaned graduate school information at the university reception, and met numerous scholars in the field. Morgan Luce even won a drawing for three free nights at next year’s conference hotel.

New assistant director of annual giving, phonathon and web marketing
I am pleased to announce Cady Sullivan will be joining the Office of Annual Giving team as the assistant director of annual giving, phonathon and web marketing. Cady earned her undergraduate degree from Messiah College and is currently enrolled in Messiah’s Masters in Higher Education program. Her education and professional experience place her in an excellent position to provide strategic planning for the phonathon program, web marketing and fundraising initiatives. In addition, Cady brings expertise and a deep appreciation for our phonathon program, as she was employed as a caller during her undergraduate experience. Cady is passionate about the mission of Messiah College and eager to continue the tradition of helping make a Messiah College education more affordable to our students.

Annual Authors’ Exhibit: attention educators!
The annual Authors’ Exhibit will be held on Friday, Dec. 11. Please submit hard copies of your publications, exhibits, performance materials, etc. from Jan. -Dec. 2015 for display at this important event held in conjunction with the New Doc’s Tea. Seeking six artificial trees
The Student Activities Board (SAB) is looking for at least six artificial Christmas trees to borrow for their annual student Christmas Traditions dance event being held on campus in Hitchcock Arena on Dec. 12. The Oakes Museum of Natural History holiday open house
Join us for our annual holiday open house on Saturday, Dec. 5 from 1-5 p.m. This event is our way of saying “thank you” to each of you in the community for supporting us throughout the year. There will be a winter craft project for children, a story time, winter photo booth, special discounts in the gift shop, drawings for museum gift certificates and refreshments. Who couldn’t use a $50 gift card in time for Christmas shopping?

C.S. Lewis Institute Community Lecture
