Cindi Kerns and Rocky Allinger presented a poster session at CAST’s 4th Annual Universal Design for Learning (UDL) Symposium in Boston, Massachusetts this summer. Their poster, “Increasing Awareness of UDL at Messiah College,” is available for close inspection right outside their office doors on the first floor of Hoffman. They would be happy to engage with others on the topic.

Employee permits

New employees – Please log into MCSquare, https://www.messiah.edu/mcsquare and click on “Employees.” Then in the Employee Quicklinks drop down box, choose “FalconPark,” click on “Employee Vehicle Registration (Web Form)” and fill in the requested information. (Please be sure that you continue until you reach a page which says, “Completed” and gives you a reference number.) Your parking permit will be sent to you through campus mail.

Previously registered employees – You do not need to re-register. Your current, orange parking permit is valid until Aug. 30, 2019.

By Sept. 3, all employees must park in their assigned employee lot, which is specified on your employee parking hangtag. If your lot is ever completely full, please call Dispatch at ext. 6005. Please refer all questions on existing and new employee parking permits to JoAnn Schaeffer at ext. 7147 or jschaeffer@messiah.edu.

Student permits

Incoming first-year/transfer students

Student parking permit pickup for incoming first-year and transfer students that have submitted all of their paperwork and received approval is in Brubaker Gymnasium on Move-In Day.

Returning students

Returning students may pick up their permits:

  • Saturday, Sept. 1 from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. outside the Falcon Exchange, 2nd floor ECC
  • Sunday, Sept. 2 from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., Brubaker Gymnasium, 1st floor ECC
  • Monday, Sept. 3 from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. outside the Falcon Exchange, 2nd floor ECC.

Upperclass move-in change

We are looking forward to welcoming back to campus new and upperclass students. We are changing upperclass move in procedures on Sunday, Sept. 2 and want to make you aware in case you plan to be on campus that day.

  • Upperclass students moving onto campus on Sept. 2 can do so between the hours of 9 a.m. – 4 p.m. and will check-in at Eisenhower (not in residences) to pick up their key.
  • College Avenue will be one-way until 6 p.m. Sunday from the High Center (creek side) all the way to the stop sign by Smith apartments so that students can unload curbside before parking.
  • There are no changes to Monday move-in.
  • Students arriving Monday, Sept. 3 can pick up their key from the Residence Life Office between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m.

Residence Life is so appreciative of the many offices partnering with to make a smooth and welcoming experience for our residential students.

Welcome Kathee Clark, associate registrar for undergraduate programs

The Registrar’s Office welcomes the new associate registrar for undergraduate programs, Kathee Clark. Kathee’s first day at Messiah was July 9. She replaces Carrie Widdowson who has moved to the position of Registrar. Kathee comes to Messiah with previous higher education experience as the director of student success, adjunct professor, and academic coordinator for the Worship and Performing Arts Department at Lancaster Bible College. Kathee’s office is located in Old Main Suite 3007.

Graduate assistants at Messiah and partner institutions

The Graduate Program in Higher Education is pleased to welcome 14 new graduate assistants for the academic year 2018-19 both on the Messiah campus and at partner institutions. Graduate assistantships offer graduate students the opportunity to put the educational theories gained through classroom instruction into professional practice through supervised, real-world experience. Our graduate assistantship program aims to provide an innovative and cost-efficient way to advance departmental and college-wide goals and objectives. Please join us and our collaborating departments in welcoming the following to the Messiah College community: Emma Cartisano, graduate assistant for off-campus programs; Ashley Doyle, graduate assistant in women’s lacrosse; Nikki Elsaesser, graduate assistant for AROMA; Leyna Gilleland, graduate assistant in academic support and retention; Aaron Gray, graduate assistant in athletics communication; Myranda Kemrer, graduate assistant in women’s volleyball; Trevor Magness, graduate assistant in student involvement and leadership; Keyauna Moore, graduate assistant for academic advising; Chad Muise, graduate assistant in baseball; Nathan Reese, graduate assistant in assessment of student learning. They join six returning graduate assistants to the Messiah campus, who will complete their degree program and GA positions this year: Tara Freeman, graduate assistant in student retention; Charlito Iwuagwu, graduate assistant in residence life; Leann Zink, graduate assistant in career development; Ashley Leggett, graduate assistant in the Agapé Center; Rachel Robison, graduate assistant in XC/track and field; Justin Sosinsky, graduate assistant in men’s basketball. In addition, four of our students in the Graduate Program in Higher Education have been placed as graduate assistants at partner institutions: Jamie Armstrong, graduate assistant in residence life at Southern Wesleyan University; Andrew Butler, graduate assistant in men’s lacrosse at Houghton College; Esther Rosier, graduate assistant in multicultural programs at Saint Francis College, Brooklyn; and Tovah Wilson in graduate assistant in residence life at Bluffton University.

Ad Deum Dance Company presents “Moving Acts of Redemption” Sept. 14 and 15 at 8 p.m., Climenhaga Building, Miller Theater. Founded by dancer and choreographer Randall Flinn, Ad Deum is comprised of over 25 professional dancers from across the world. Their mission is to create and perform moving works of dance that touch at the core of human existence, uplifting the soul and transforming the heart. Ad Deum has performed the works of major choreographers and has toured across the U.S., Canada, Mexico, Europe and Asia, with commissions by governments and embassies worldwide to perform for major and critical events.
