Michael True, senior associate in the Career and Professional Development Center, has been selected as a contributor to the book, “International Internships: Mission, Methods, and Models.” It will be released in June at the Global Internship Conference. The title of his chapter is “Select Trends in Higher Education and Future Ideas.” The chapter covers the current state of higher education, required qualities in students, trends in experiential learning, future ideas and next steps.

It is with pleasure that I announce the following moves and promotions within the Operations Division: Effective August 13, Heather Negley will move to the position of project coordinator, executive assistant for the vice president of operations. Concurrently, Jonathan Bert will be promoted to the director of conference and event services, and effective July 1, Derek Mauldin will be promoted to the sound, lighting and event coordinator as Jonathan’s replacement. Please congratulate these employees as you see or interact with them on campus.

Niklas Hellgren, associate professor of physics, and Alex Sredenschek, a junior physics and mathematics major, recently attended the Mid Atlantic Chapter meeting of the American Vacuum Association at the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) in Gaithersburg, Maryland. Alex presented a poster (“Co-Sputtered ZnSe Thin Films”) of research he and senior physics major Hallie Miller, have conducted under the supervision of Dr. Hellgren. In a competition comprised entirely of graduate students from research universities like the University of Maryland, George Washington University, and the College of William and Mary, he won an honorable mention and a $50 cash prize. The poster can be viewed on the 3rd floor of Frey Hall.

Concert Choir tours Slovenia and Croatia

The Messiah College Concert Choir, conducted by Linda Tedford, will perform throughout Slovenia and Croatia from May 22 to 30. The choir will tour both countries, performing in various churches. They will also take part in a choral workshop. The Concert Choir has performed in Italy, Austria, Czech Republic and Ireland.

Free to a good office: Messiah College yearbooks: large yearbook collection starting with 1922 and ending with 2013. There are about 12-15 missing years in that span.
