Paula Hoffman, who has been serving as the Bittner residence director and assistant director of residence life – first year experience, has decided to pursue new opportunities outside of Residence Life, which includes serving part-time as a counselor for In Him Christian Wellness. Ines Yoon, who has currently been serving as interim Bittner residence director, will continue as full-time Bittner RD through May 2020. Please direct any Bittner matters to Ines (iyoon@messiah.edu). Josiah Hatfield has agreed to continue as interim assistant director through May 2020. Any first year experience matters should be directed to Josiah (jhatfield@messiah.edu). Visiting Assistant Professor of Cybersecurity Vinayak Sakore attended the NetDiligence Cyber Risk Summit in Santa Monica, CA, Oct. 15-17. This interactive workshop revolves around a simulated ransomware cyber-attack. Vinny hosted a 90-minute tabletop discussion and led a session on cyber threat intelligence.

The quarterly online magazine ‘God and Nature’, published by the American Scientific Affiliation, included the lead article ‘A Glimpse of God through Mathematics’, by Dr. Doug Phillippy, professor of mathematics, in the Fall 2019 edition.

Dwayne Safer, CFA, assistant professor of finance, recently passed the Level 2 exam of the Chartered Alternative Investment Analyst (CAIA) program. As a result of successful completion of the exams, he has received the prestigious CAIA designation and is one of 11,000 global investment professionals with demonstrated expertise in alternative investment valuation and analysis.

President’s Open Door Day

President Phipps will host an Open Door Day on Tuesday, Nov. 19, from 9 a.m. to noon, to meet individually with students and employees on topics that are important to them. Open Door Day will take place in the president’s office on the second floor of Old Main. A sign-in sheet will be located in Old Main room 207 starting at 9 a.m. on Nov. 19. Open Door Day is on a first-come, first-serve basis.

Murray Library is again displaying unique crèches from around the world and would love to include yours! If you have a nativity set that is handmade, from another country or antique, we would love to borrow it to share with our library visitors. We would need it from Nov. 27 until approximately Dec. 20.
