Dwayne Safer, assistant professor of finance, recently spoke at The Economist’s signature Investing for Impact conference in New York City. He spoke on a panel entitled “Impact for the Next Generation” where he addressed Gen Z investing trends as well as the growing movement of faith-based investing and aligning portfolios with God-honoring investments.
Having served Messiah College for over 25 years, Paula Maynard, associate registrar for the School of Graduate Studies, has accepted a position as the registrar at Penn State Harrisburg. Paula’s last day with us at Messiah will be March 6. Throughout her career, we always appreciated both her expertise and tireless work in support of our students. We all wish her the very best in her new position.

Welcome Week reservation requests
Due to the high volume of events that occur during the start of each academic year, the offices of Conference and Event Services and Student Involvement and Leadership Programs have made some adjustments to the room reservation process during Leadership Launch Week and Welcome Week. All programs occurring from August 15 through September 5 will be reviewed simultaneously rather than on a first-come-first-served basis. These dates will be reservation blackout dates in EMS. To plan an event during this time, please request a Welcome Week event registration form from silp@messiah.edu and submit the completed form to the same address by March 31. Our hope is to allocate resources in a way that provides the best experiences for your events and their attendees while placing as little strain on events staff as possible. Spring Break housing information
Over Spring Break the residence halls and apartments will be locked from noon on Saturday, March 14 until 8 a.m. on Saturday, March 21. Residential students can stay during break in their rooms, apartments or special interest houses, but MUST register to stay on-campus. Students who do not register will not have card swipe access for the apartments and residence halls. If you know of students who will need to stay on-campus for ANY part of Spring Break, please have them fill out the spring break housing form by Friday, March 6. School of the Humanities Summer Academic Camps
This summer, the School of the Humanities will hold four academic camps.
New this year! Our Readers’ Workshop will delve into readings by C.S. Lewis, J.R.R. Tolkien, and others as a way to strengthen their love of reading, explore literary concepts and immerse themselves into the world of high fantasy and science fiction. The Young Filmmakers Workshop provides college-level filmmaking skills for students in rising grades 10-12. Students will leave with an understanding of how to be a writer, director, actor, cinematographer and editor. This camp is held on June 21 – 26. The Young Writers Workshop provides college-level writing skills development for students in rising grades 9 – 12. FaithWorks@MessiahCollege is a unique summer experience connecting faith and service. Students will learn from our faculty in Bible, ministry and theology, spend time with college student mentors, work alongside others as they invest in their communities and celebrate the gift of their faith and the joy of doing God’s work. JAZZ VESPERS Eric Byrd Trio, Tim Warfield, Terrell Stafford, United Voices of Praise
Feb. 29, 2020 at 7:30 p.m., Parmer Hall The Eric Byrd Trio, Jazz Ambassadors for the U.S. State Department and the Kennedy Center, will present a worship service featuring Biblical scripture readings and music drawn from Negro spirituals, hymns and black gospel music, all performed within the idiom of jazz. Artist in Residence Eric Byrd will be joined by trio members Bhagwan Khalsa, bass, and drummer Alphonso Young Jr. The program will also feature Artist in Residence Tim Warfield on saxophone, trumpeter Terrell Stafford and Messiah’s gospel choir, United Voices of Praise. Speaker Dr. Paul D. Miller, “Christianity, National Identity, and America’s Role in the World”
What does it mean to be an American? What is America’s role in the world? And how should Christians approach these questions? Americans and Christians have offered different answers to these questions over the course of American history. Dr. Paul D. Miller is a Professor of the Practice of International Affairs at Georgetown University’s School of Foreign Service. He serves as co-chair of the Global Politics and Security concentration in the MSFS program. He is also a non-resident Senior Fellow with the Atlantic Council’s Scowcroft Center for Strategy and Security. As a practitioner, Dr. Miller served as Director for Afghanistan and Pakistan on the National Security Council staff; worked as an intelligence analyst for the Central Intelligence Agency; and served as a military intelligence officer in the U.S. Army. Dr. Miller holds a Ph.D. in international relations and a B.A. in government from Georgetown University, and a master’s degree in public policy from Harvard University.
