NEW! Virtual employer sessions and listing of all online services

Greetings from the CPDC! We have transitioned many of our services to online formats and are including information on those below. In particular, we’d like to highlight a series of opportunities for students to connect with employers via virtual employer info sessions, which will be taking place via Zoom Webinar. A listing of sessions scheduled to date is attached. As you can imagine, the pandemic will certainly have unique effects on our students who are engaging in job and internship searches, so it is important for them to stay connected. Your assistance in encouraging students to participate in these virtual events is greatly appreciated. We anticipate that many more virtual employer events will be added in the future, and as such our Upcoming Events page ( will be kept up to date with all sessions. Career coaching appointments Career coaching appointments will continue to be available on topics such as choosing/changing a major, exploring career options, planning for an internship, searching for a job, applying to graduate school, resume writing and interviewing. To schedule an appointment with one our professional career coaches, visit the CPDC website. Under “Appointment Options,” click the link for the Handshake Portal and follow the instructions from there. Appointments can be held via Zoom or phone.

Resume reviews Resume reviews can be conducted in an appointment format as noted above, or students can simply email a draft to

Internships and jobs Internship and job postings will continue to be added to the Handshake portal regularly. A weekly email with new postings will be sent out to all students. Students looking to secure an internship for the summer or fall should begin planning for these experiences. Seniors in the job searching process should check out the content in the “Job Search” section of our website. Questions related to either of these topics can be discussed with a career coach by scheduling an appointment.

Virtual workshops and events Virtual events and videos that feature employer info sessions, workshops on job/internship searching, resume writing, interviewing are being scheduled! Follow us on Facebook or Instagram for notifications on when these are happening and other exclusive content.

Mock interviews Students can practice interviewing and receive feedback virtually through our online tool Big Interview or via a Zoom appointment with a career coach. We anticipate that many employers will be conducting interviews virtually with prospective interns and job candidates.

Messiah’s site license to The Chronicle provides unlimited access for everyone whether they are on campus or working remotely.

We’ve heard from a number of institutions about the need to provide administrators, staff, faculty, and students with access to Chronicle content while remote, and we’re here to help. Off-campus users will need an account to log in to If they already have an account, they can click “Log In,” at the top right-hand corner of our homepage. If they don’t have an account, they will simply need to create a free account using their institutional email address (e.g., Our account-registration system will recognize your institution’s domain, and that will provide unlimited access. Remote users can set up a account by visiting this link. Activating an account is as simple as confirming the user’s institutional email address by way of an email with the subject line: “Confirm your email address.” When users sign up, we encourage them to keep up with the latest developments about COVID-19 and its impact on higher education by registering to receive The Chronicle’s Academe Today newsletter each morning. Resources for issues related to COVID-19

Messiah College seeks to provide employees with access to various resources to assist them during this time of uncertainty. Giving Day 2020: date change

Dear faculty, staff and administrators, In light of recent events with COVID-19, we have decided to push the College’s Giving Day back to Thursday, April 30. There is a lot going on in our world, which is why we feel even more committed to our students and have decided to move forward in raising funds to support them. On April 30, we will ask our Messiah Community to rally behind the men and women we teach, mentor, work with and care about. We will be specifically raising funds to support The Good Samaritan Fund and the Messiah Fund, both of which will allow us to best meet the direct needs of our students and our ability to serve them during this pandemic. Would you join us in saving this date on your calendar? We are looking forward to Giving Day and the opportunity it gives our campus to make a unified front in support of our students. Despite the closure of campus, WVMM-Pulse Radio continues to broadcast both over the air at 90.7 FM and online at The station provides commercial-free classical music weekdays from 6- 11 a.m. Also available is a daily podcast from the Associated Press regarding COVID-19 each weekday evening and much more. Thesis presentation

The Graduate Program in Higher Education is pleased to invite members of the campus community to a thesis presentation by Emma Cartisano. In partial fulfillment of her M.A. in Higher Education and under direction of her thesis advisor, Dr. Cynthia Wells, Emma’s research focused on “The impact of faculty growth mindset on student mindset and learning engagement”. The presentation is scheduled for Wednesday, April 29 from Noon – 1 p.m. via Zoom                      ( Emma Cartisano Thesis Abstract

Growth mindset is the belief that general intellectual ability is malleable and can be developed This presentation will describe the presence and cultivation of growth mindset in the academic experiences of six undergraduate students in the social sciences at a medium-sized, liberal arts and sciences college. Individual interviews and syllabi were analyzed using narrative inquiry to explore the impact of instructor philosophy and pedagogy on student mindset and learning engagement. Research findings highlight that instructor embodiment of growth mindset, including relationality, modeling, and constructive delivery of feedback, as well as assignment design were instrumental. Participants did not share a common definition of growth mindset but that concepts of competence, grace, and grit were shared. Additionally, participants recognized that mindset exists on a continuum and articulated one or more ways they experienced a shift in their mindset. Recommendations for further research and pedagogical practice will be provided.
