Dwayne Safer, CFA, CFP®, associate professor of finance, recently passed the certification exam administered by the Certified Financial Planner (CFP) Board of Standards. He was conferred the CFP® designation upon successful completion of the exam, required coursework and performing 6,000 hours of professional experience related to the financial planning process. The CFP exam body of knowledge encompasses areas related to comprehensive financial planning including estate planning, education planning, taxation, investment management, insurance and retirement planning.
Dr. Jenny Dose received the Sharon Johnson Award for Scholarship at the October annual conference of the Christian Business Faculty Association in Nashville, TN. The award is bestowed annually to individuals actively making their intellectual work known among colleagues, students, and the broader business community. Scholars considered for the award demonstrate a life and stream of scholarship that honors God in its focus, makes significant and meaningful contributions to thought and/or practice, opens new lines of research and writing, encourages others to engage in scholarly activity, reflects a life lived in faith integration.
The Registrar’s Office welcomes the new associate registrar for undergraduate programs, Beth Moshier. Beth’s first day at as associate registrar is January 10. She replaces Kathee Clark who has moved to the position of Registrar. Beth joins the Registrar’s Office after serving at Messiah as a Residence Director, First Year Experience since 2017. Additionally Beth’s higher education experience includes interning in the Office of Human Resources and Compliance, teaching GEST 041 – Academic Strategies at Messiah, the Office of the Registrar at Taylor University, Residence Coordinator at University of St. Joseph and a therapist at the University of Hartford. Beth rounds out her professional experience at AIDS Connecticut as a Medical Case Manager. Beth’s office is located in the Phipps Admissions and Welcome Center, Suite 107.
Professors, Borko Rodic DSc,DPT,OCS,COMT,FAAOMPT and Michael E. Lehr DSc,DPT,OCS,COMT,CSCS, FAAOMPT were honored in Cleveland, Ohio during the American Academy of Orthopedic Manual Physical Therapist (AAOMPT)’s national conference. As members of the core faculty within the Doctoral Program in Physical Therapy, each was recognized with the distinguished honors of becoming a manual therapy fellow- FAAOMPT. After completing four years of advanced and highly specialized training in manual therapy, both graduated from the North American Institute of Orthopedic Manual Therapy (NAIOMT)’s fellowship program. In addition, the DPT program’s most recent CAPTE accreditation review acknowledged the content expertise of the faculty as a whole being a significant strength of the graduate program, while under the leadership of Karl Bergmann, program director, and Rob Pepper, Dean of graduate studies. As core faculty within the DPT program, their professional development journey serves as a model for Messiah University’s health professional student body by embodying lifelong learning.

Thank you – graduate student holiday giving project
The School of Graduate Studies Fall 2021 Holiday Giving project was a huge success in providing filled pantry bags to on-campus graduate students enrolled in the DPT and MOT programs, the dietetic interns, and graduate assistants. New Psychospiritual workbook for graduate students and mental health practitioners
A new STAR: Spiritual Themes Assessment and Reflection Field Experience/Practitioner Workbook is available to complement an Apple Store app of the same name with no fees, ads, or in-purchase requirements. These resources are the product of an ACPE MAP grant and Carol’s sabbatical work to help promote Spiritually Integrated Psychotherapist (SIP) certification now offered through Messiah University. Research on the usefulness of this new workbook will be conducted in the Graduate Counseling Department’s field experience classes in spring and summer of 2022. Try out the app by searching for “STAR: Spiritual Themes” in the Apple Store.

Bridge to Freedom Children’s Collection
You are invited to celebrate with us as we dedicate a new theme room at Murray Library to house the Bridge to Freedom Children’s Collection. The inspiration for this space and collection was a generous gift of children’s books from Dr. Todd, Lonette, and Bryce Allen grounded in African American history with an emphasis on the Civil Rights Movement.
The purpose of the collection is to provide educational resources for young children illustrating diverse historical experiences in the ongoing struggle for equality, freedom, and reconciliation.

MLK Commemoration Week
The MLK Committee is proud to present the 2022 MLK Commemoration Week beginning Monday, Jan. 17 through Saturday, Jan. 22. It is the university’s goal to reflect on the vision and Christian ministry of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. for the purpose of encouraging and cultivating a deeper commitment to be God’s agents of justice, peace, and reconciliation. Student Employee of the Year nominations
The Student Employment Office is now accepting nominations for the Student Employee of the Year Award. If you have an outstanding student working in your department, please nominate them! Any undergraduate student employee may be nominated for the Student Employee of the Year (SEOTY) Award. Nominees will be judged by committee review and the following prizes will be awarded during National Student Employment Week in April:
• Student Employee of the Year- $150
• Runner-up- $100
• Honorable Mention Awards (2) – $50 each
In addition, the person selected as the Messiah’s Student Employee of the Year will be nominated for additional recognition at the State, Regional and National levels. Messiah’s 2020 and 2021 SEOTY went on to be selected as Pennsylvania’s SEOTY!
