Paula Johnson, PT, DPT, MBA, director of clinical education and assistant professor of physical therapy, has been selected as the 2023 recipient of the American Physical Therapy Association’s Minority Faculty Development Scholarship Award. Nominees must be pursuing their post-professional doctorate and further the profession of physical therapy through teaching and research. They must also be committed to advancing, contributing to, and impacting minority affairs, while maintaining academic excellence and dedicated service to the profession and association. Paula was able to stand out among many exceptional nominations and will use this award to fund her dissertation research as she completes her doctorate in education.

Michael E. Lehr, DPT, associate professor, and Borko Rodic, DPT, DSc, assistant professor of physical therapy, presented their invited poster presentation titled, “Comparison of Manual Techniques to the Talocrural Joint: Clinical Implications on Injury Risk”. The Invited Poster was featured at the World Congress of Orthopedics most recently held in Osaka, Japan on May 19.

Phoenix Physical Therapy at Messiah University accepting new patients!

Phoenix Physical Therapy at Messiah University, located at Messiah’s Winding Hill facility at 401 East Winding Hill Road, is accepting new patients! Phoenix PT is an interprofessional outpatient clinic that provides comprehensive physical therapy, occupational therapy—including pediatric OT services—and athletic training services to a diverse population of patients in the local community. Phoenix’s personnel works together with Messiah educators to train and develop the next generation of licensed physical and occupational therapists and certified athletic trainers and brings high-quality, intergenerational PT, OT and AT care to the Mechanicsburg area. We currently have the available opportunities:

  • Registration table (2-hour timeslots throughout the day)
  • Lifelong Learning Sessions – Boyer Hall (Various Locations, 2-3 p.m.)
  • Reunion Row – 2-4 p.m. (this is for ALL alumni but will honor the milestone years: ’83, ’93, ’98, ’03, ’13 and ’23.)
