ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS
Coordinator of pre-health professions advising
The Dean of Science, Engineering and Health is pleased to announce that Dr. Jennifer Ness-Myers, associate professor of biological sciences, will begin in August to fulfill the role of coordinator of pre-health professions advising as part of her faculty assignment. Jennifer served in this role for three years at Lees-McRae College and is currently the chair of Messiah’s Pre-Health Professions Advising Committee. As coordinator of pre-health professions advising, Jennifer will provide counsel to prospective and current Messiah students and to alumni who wish to learn about or apply to graduate programs in the health professions. Additionally, she will serve as a liaison between Messiah University and institutions with which we have articulation agreements in many health science fields. Jennifer will work with undergraduate Messiah students from all majors across SSEH and SACS. We look forward to working with Jennifer in this role following Martha Stigelman’s retirement on July 31.
New staff in Residence Life
In the past year Residence Life had to say goodbye to Becca Firstbrook, Nikki Murren and Preston Teuscher. All three made a significant impact on our department and on the care for our students, but we are very excited for what their next steps hold. While we are sad to see them go, we are excited to welcome three new Residence Life Educators (RLE) to our community!
Delight Darenya just completed her master’s in higher education from Taylor University. Bringing experience from her work at Taylor and her undergraduate experience at Cornerstone University, Delight will be making the trek from the Midwest to join us as the RLE of Hess and Miller.
Derek Guissanie is an undergraduate and graduate program alum of Messiah. After serving in a variety of interim positions this past year, we are excited to welcome Derek in a full-time position as the RLE of Mountain View and Sollenberger.
Nate St Luise spent this past year as the graduate assistant for retention in the Office of Student Success. He will be wrapping up his final year in the master’s in higher education program while serving as the RLE of Naugle.
All three will start work in mid-July and we hope you will join us in giving them a warm welcome to the Messiah Community.

Young Peacemakers Academy 2025 is accepting applications!
This year Messiah’s Peace and Conflict Studies Program is pleased to collaborate with Mennonite Central Committee (MCC) to host the Young Peacemakers Academy (YPA)!
YPA is open for high school students and seeks to engage youth interested in building sustainable peace in their community and around the world by focusing on understanding Christian foundations of peacemaking.
Together we will spend 3 full days exploring the foundations of Christian peacemaking at MCC’s beautiful Welcoming Place campus in Akron, PA. We’ll hear from faculty and students from Messiah and MCC staff about topics ranging from ways we can be a good neighbor, migration, restorative justice, Agapé love and sustainable creation care.
Beyond the workshops, we will also visit MCC sites and programs to see our lessons come to life — including an afternoon volunteering with MCC’s Material Resource Center and the MCC Thrift Store in Ephrata.
Spots are limited, so we encourage participants to submit their registration ASAP.
