July 31

But ask the animals, and they will teach you,
or the birds in the sky, and they will tell you;
or speak to the earth, and it will teach you,
or let the fish in the sea inform you.
Which of all these does not know
that the hand of the Lord has done this?
In his hand is the life of every creature
and the breath of all mankind.

ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS

After two years as Witmer residence life educator (RLE), Mark Gossage has departed Messiah to pursue the next steps in his career. Like so many of the transitions in Residence Life in the past year, we are sad to see Mark go, but excited for him to head where the Lord is leading. We are thrilled to announce that Dinah Chitlango will be our new RLE of Witmer starting immediately. Dinah attended Messiah for her undergraduate degree and served as an RA in Witmer during that time. She came back to Messiah last year to start in the Masters of Higher Education program and was graduate assistant for off-campus programs in the Agape Center. We are very excited that she is bringing her experiences around campus and leadership to our team for this fall!

Recognition from the American Marketing Association

This spring, professor of marketing David Hagenbuch was one of ten national thought leaders that the American Marketing Association (AMA) asked to share their perspectives on ethics in the field. After assimilating their input, AMA recently introduced a new model of marketing that appropriately places ethics at its center. The model and many relevant supports are available on the organization’s new ethics webpage (https://www.ama.org/marketing-ethics/).

Among Marketing Ethics Resources, AMA recommends the Mindful Matrix, a 2 x 2 decision-making tool that serves as the centerpiece of the Mindful Marketing paradigm David created and uses as a platform for discussing current ethical issues in the field: https://www.mindfulmarketing.org/

IRONSCALES New Email Security System

ITS Security has rolled out IRONSCALES to better protect your inbox from phishing threats. We have already seen IRONSCALES have a significant and positive impact by preventing phishing attacks that previously may have come through. There are a couple of items we want to bring to your attention:

  • Ironscales is more aggressive in flagging spam. Please review your daily digest email around 11 a.m. and use the “release to inbox” option for any legitimate emails you wish to receive. This helps train your mailbox to correctly categorize future messages.
  • You may occasionally see banners from IRONSCALES added to the top of emails you receive. These are legitimate and displayed to raise awareness of potential issues. For example, if you receive an email from someone which is not from their Messiah University email address but displays the name of someone from Messiah University, IRONSCALES may show a message stating that to make sure you are aware this could be an impersonation attempt.
  • While ITS Security has worked to make sure all previously allowed senders and recipients have been retained, there is the possibility that something may have been missed especially when it comes to third party systems that are used to communicate with our students. If your team is planning to send messages via a third party and you’re unsure how they’ll be classified, please send a test email first and/or reach out to security@messiah.edu
  • Additional information regarding IRONSCALES can be found on our Knowledge Base.

  • To prepare for the W-drive being discontinued, make sure that all content has been saved elsewhere if you need continued access. A tutorial for migrating files into Cascade from the w-drive can be found on the Web Services site.
  • If you have an xForm that needs to be converted, please schedule a time to meet with ITS via their booking page or reach out directly to techsupport@messiah.edu

Agapé Center update: Requirement for international travel
All educators traveling internationally with Messiah University in the upcoming academic year must complete a brief Qualtrics survey by Aug. 15. We understand this may feel early in the process; however, it is essential for us to

  1. Provide our international insurance provider with accurate and timely travel information. This will streamline our documentation and ensure all travelers are properly covered while abroad.
  2. Ensure educators complete necessary approvals prior to their scheduled travel. In the future, we will send this survey at the end of the academic year (early May), allowing ample time for completion. However, due to timing adjustments this year, we are sending it out a bit later than usual and appreciate your prompt attention. Please complete the survey by Aug. 15 using the following link: https://messiah.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_eFhVR9BHk2iFZ1Y We sincerely appreciate your continued flexibility and willingness to support this improvement. Your collaboration helps us better care for and support everyone representing Messiah through off-campus travel and meaningful global learning experiences. After the survey is completed, the Agapé Center (Off-Campus Programs) will follow up with the next steps. Please reach out to either Kate Narber or Paula Holtzinger with questions.

*Note: Cross-cultural trips are exempt from this requirement.
