ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS
New biography of retired Messiah educator
In October, the Brethren in Christ Historical Society published a biography of E. Morris Sider, titled “Storyteller: The Life and Ministry of E. Morris Sider.” Sider was a long-time faculty member in history and English literature at Messiah (1963-2000) and remains one of the leading historians of the Brethren in Christ Church, Messiah’s founding denomination. The biography was written by Devin Manzullo-Thomas, associate professor of American religious history and university archivist. Devin was a featured speaker at two book release events held by the Historical Society: one at the Grantham Brethren in Christ Church in Pennsylvania (Sider’s home congregation for more than 60 years) and one at the Port Colborne Brethren in Christ Church in Ontario, Canada (Sider was born and raised in southern Ontario).
MARC-ACSM 2025
On Nov. 7 and 8, the Department of Health, Nutrition and Exercise Science sent three students to the MARC-ACSM conference held in Harrisburg. Under the mentorship of Dr. H. Special congratulations to Grace Sagna for bringing home the undergraduate poster award, first place. The conference also included a keynote lecture from Dr. Eric Rawson on his years of research regarding creatine, as a past-president of the ACSM (American College of Sports Medicine).

Operations division’s focus on unreasonable hospitality
This summer, the Division of Operations leadership team embraced the concept of Unreasonable Hospitality a philosophy that challenges each team member to use their creativity and resources to go above and beyond for those we serve. In the spirit of this theme, PREP professionals and interns recently completed a six-week adaptive fitness class designed for individuals who use wheelchairs for mobility. The class welcomed returning participants as well as three new clients. Each person brought a unique set of needs, and our staff applied their expertise and plenty of creativity to design exercises that were both safe and appropriately challenging. Beyond the workouts themselves, we had the privilege of getting to know each client’s story. Those conversations offered fresh insights, new perspectives and a deeper appreciation for the resilience and determination of the people we serve.
Sensory-friendly Santa returns to Winding Hill
Messiah’s occupational therapy students are busy preparing to host a sensory-friendly Santa night when local families can interact with Santa and enjoy festive activities in a judgement-free atmosphere. If you would like to support this joy-filled event, we are hoping to borrow artificial Christmas trees (4-6 feet tall) for the week of December.
Please contact Leanne Rutt at lrutt@messiah.edu if you are willing to lend out yours.
We are also seeking grocery store gift cards (Wegmans, Giant, Weis, etc.) to purchase cookies and icing and a meal to sustain Santa and his elves. Follow the OT program on social media for more. Merry Christmas to you!

CWS-Harrisburg’s International Friendsgiving
Whether you missed the Agapé Center’s International Friendsgiving event, or you want to share the incredible meal and experience with friends and family, we invite you to support Church World Services-Harrisburg through purchasing a “Culturally Diverse Feast To-Go!” Messiah has been such an important part of Church World Service’s extended community of partners, helping refugee and immigrant families build stability and belonging here in the greater-Harrisburg area. International Friendsgiving is one of the main ways to support CWS-Harrisburg! Friendsgiving features meals prepared by refugee and immigrant chefs from Afghanistan, Eritrea, Venezuela, Somalia, and Syria- recipes that reflect the cultures our clients bring to Harrisburg. Community members can buy a meal for themselves or purchase one to donate directly to a newly arrived refugee family. Every order helps provide food, support, and connection. We would really appreciate your help in getting the word out- please share it with your team, clients, or network, and consider ordering meals for your office or family. You can find all the details and order online here: www.cwsharrisburg.org/friendsgiving
