School of Arts, Culture and Society – assistant dean

SACS would like to share that Valerie Lemmon will be stepping down from the role of assistant dean for the School of Arts, Culture and Society. Valerie will continue serving the school as co-chair of the PCJS Department. The school is deeply grateful for Valerie’s leadership, dedication and service during her time as assistant dean. Her thoughtful guidance, commitment to students and colleagues and many contributions to the school have made a meaningful and lasting impact on the community. The school is thankful that Valerie will continue to provide leadership and support through their ongoing role within the department. Please join in expressing appreciation for her service and support during this transition. I am pleased to announce that Ling Dinse, chair and professor for social work, has agreed to serve as assistant dean of the School of Arts, Culture and Society. Ling’s leadership and dedication to the faculty and students at Messiah University during her tenure as chair have been exemplary and we look forward to her continued leadership.

With gratitude and appreciation, SACS recognizes the service and leadership of John Bechtold as he transitions from his leadership role and returns to faculty responsibilities. John has served admirably for decades, offering thoughtful leadership, steady guidance, and dedicated service to students, faculty and colleagues. His many contributions have made a meaningful and lasting impact on the broader university community. Kelly Waltman-Spreha will step into the role chair of PCJS. The school looks forward to Kelly’s leadership and the contributions she will bring to the department in this new role.

Murray Library is offering a summer Lunch and Learn workshop about Ancestry.com library edition. We will introduce the main search features and contents. Following the introduction, you will have time to begin searching for your own ancestors with the help of librarians!

Murray Library carpet installation: June 15-18 service updates

Between June 15-18, a section of carpet in the main stacks area of Murray Library will be replaced. The main stacks and the University Archives will be closed to the public. All other library spaces and offices will remain open. Request items from the main stacks by placing a hold request for pickup at the Circulation Desk. NEXT Steps has a job opening!

NEXT Steps is a 2-year certificate program for students with intellectual disability. The residence life educator for NEXT Steps is a live-in, professional educator whose primary responsibility is to deliver a student-development focused curriculum and co-curriculum that supports the mission of the NEXT Steps program. The NEXT Steps RLE actively promotes a safe and healthy living environment for students in the program while teaching foundational skills in independent living. They serve as active members on the NEXT Steps team. This is a full-time, 10-month position.
