We are pleased to welcome Dereck Kamwesa, assistant director of admissions, multicultural recruitment, to the enrollment management team. He spent the last eleven years working at Taylor University, his alma mater. There he led domestic underrepresented and international student recruitment efforts and significantly contributed to the increase in diversity on Taylor’s campus. Dereck’s first day was Mon., July 10. Please join us in welcoming him to the Messiah community!

Please join us in welcoming Karen Blair to the Office of Human Resources and Compliance. Karen is the HR administrative assistant and is responsible for supporting the recruitment function as well as employee events and the HR portion of the staff payroll, among other duties.

ID2ID, an initiative established by the EDUCAUSE Learning Initiative (ELI) in partnership with Penn State University, launches in July. This program pairs instructional designers across higher education institutions for collaborative engagement through a global Google community. This community will address real-world learning design challenges and opportunities in digital literacies, accessibility, assessment, open education and learning spaces. Cindi Kerns’ acceptance into this inaugural program maintains Learning Technology Services’ commitment to continued growth in supporting the learning processes for students at Messiah College. http://www.id2id.org/

Free admission to the Oakes Museum of Natural History

If you are looking for something fun to do with your family this summer, then come visit The Oakes Museum of Natural History. Messiah College faculty and staff receive free admission to the museum for themselves and their families on Saturday afternoons from 1- 5 p.m. The museum is home to a collection of Smithsonian quality African and North American mammals, birds, eggs, fish, seashells, minerals, insects and fossils. The Oakes Museum of Natural History is located in the Jordan Science Center. We hope to see you soon!

Employee Summer Film

The Office of Human Resources and Compliance will be showing the movie Hidden Figures on Tues., July 25 as part of our See Diversity Anew initiative. Show times are at 10 a.m., 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. with refreshments provided. No tickets are necessary; please plan on attending the movie during your normal working hours.
