The righteous cry out, and the LORD hears them; he delivers them from all their troubles. The LORD is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit. The righteous person may have many troubles, but the LORD delivers him from them all; he protects all his bones, not one of them will be broken.

Psalm 34:17-20

NEWS

It is with mixed emotions that I announce that Dr. Robin Lauermann, associate dean of general education, common learning and advising has decided after this spring to return to full-time teaching within the Department of Politics and International Relations for the fall of 2019. During the past eight years, Robin has provided outstanding leadership and accomplished much for both the general education program (QuEST) and for academic advising. In general education, she developed and implemented the branding of General Education as QuEST; oversaw the rewriting of the QuEST learning objectives; put the assessment of student learning in QuEST on a rock-solid foundation; worked collaboratively to create a two-semester writing course sequence in the First Year Seminar and Created and Called for Community courses; provided learning outcome results via infographics on the QuEST website; hired many adjuncts; counseled faculty in the creation and approval of countless cross-cultural courses; provided leadership and workshops during May Development week for various aspects of the program; and was instrumental in the implementation of the Experiential Learning Initiative requirement to name just a few of her accomplishments. In academic advising she oriented scores of new advisors each fall, oversaw the revamping of the advising evaluation instrument, and counseled hundreds of undeclared students among other accomplishments. We will miss Robin’s productivity, passion and insights in these two roles, but are delighted for her and even more for the students who will be inspired by that same passion as she assumes the role of professor of political science on a full-time basis this fall.
