It is with a heavy heart that Human Resources and Compliance announces the retirement of Sharon Robinson after twenty years of committed service to Messiah. Sharon has positively impacted the work experience of so many Messiah employees through her warmth, compassion, humor and hospitality. She will be sorely missed. We wish her all the best as she starts this new chapter in her life.

Novel Planning Workshop
Do you have an idea for a novel but don’t know how to start the process? Messiah University is here to help. We will teach you how to plan and outline your novel in a way that will make the writing process much easier. You will create characters who come alive, plots that draw in your readers, settings that become real, sub-plots that add depth, and you will consider your theme as a way to make your novel stand out.
This course consists of four ‘work at your own pace’ online modules, four group Zoom calls, and a Q&A with a published author. Each module consists of lessons, video explanations, instructor-led workshop discussions, and writing challenges. The instructor will be available to help you work through challenges via email or personal coaching Zoom calls, as needed. You will also receive a $20 gift card to the Messiah University bookstore. At the end of the four weeks, you will have a fully planned novel ready to be written.

Dates: Feb. 1 – 28 online, group Zoom calls on Monday evenings, 6 – 7p.m. EST. Work at your own pace through online lesson modules and message board workshops through the month of February.

Would you benefit from meeting with other writers and published authors to keep you motivated? Messiah University wants to help you write your manuscript!
Through a series of online ‘work at your own pace’ modules, group Zoom calls, and a Q&A with a published author, you will learn story-telling techniques such as hooks, pacing, effective dialogue, and more. You will explore how to grab your reader with your first sentence, keep them reading through the middle, and wow them in the end. If you haven’t written your first word, or are slogging through the middle, we are here to help you.
The instructor will be available to help you as you write via email or personal coaching Zoom calls, as needed. You will also receive a $20 gift card to the Messiah University bookstore. At the end of the four weeks, you will have made significant progress on your manuscript.

In search of
Household items for Smith quarantine apartments
We will continue to use Smith apartments to quarantine individuals during the spring semester as needed. While we received some items last semester to improve these spaces (thank you to those of you who donated!), we are hoping to make them better for next semester.
With Christmas around the corner and New Year’s “out with the old” and “in with the new” mentality, maybe you are replacing some things and looking to donate your old items. Do you have a microwave that you are looking to get rid of? A teapot? Pots and pans? Lamps? Or any other household items that you can imagine in an on campus apartment that someone would be staying in while they are quarantined?
The Department of Residence Life would like to collect various items to place in these apartments as we are able. Please email Julie Price at jprice@messiah.edu if you are getting rid of anything that might make these spaces more livable for our students.
