NEWS

Dr. Kim Fenstermacher, assistant dean of nursing, is one of three authors of the third edition of Called to Care: A Christian Vision for Nursing, published by InterVarsity Press with a release date of July 20. This text fills a critical need for nurses seeking to develop and explain their nursing philosophy and integrate their Christian faith in nursing practice, and it is read by all Messiah nursing students in the NURS 203 course. Kim worked with co-authors Judith Allen Shelly (BSN, DMin) who is a former publications director for Nurses Christian Fellowship and Arlene B Miller (RN, PhD) who is retired from the faculty of Messiah’s Dept. of Nursing.

Independence Day observed

Messiah University will recognize the Independence Day holiday tomorrow, Friday, July 2 (as listed on the holiday schedule found here: https://www.messiah.edu/info/20590/benefits/1014/holiday_schedule). Happy Independence Day!

Calling all collectors!

Do you collect stamps, or Pez dispensers, or fishing lures? Anything? Would you be willing to bring a few examples and talk about your collection with elementary school age campers at the Oakes Museum for ten minutes sometime during the week of July 19-23? Please contact Kirsten Reinford, special programs manager, at kreinford@messiah.edu if you have a collection you could share. Thank you!

Breakroom changes

With the disruption created by COVID, some changes that were implemented as part of prioritization were conflated with changes that needed to be made due to COVID. One such change is the stocking of breakrooms. As announced in 2019, the University ended it’s leasing of breakroom coffee machines and will no longer be stocking breakrooms. Likewise, department budgets are not to be allocated to stocking breakrooms. The University will continue to provide breakroom spaces and refrigerators (where feasible), but we are each responsible for our own refreshments.

Guest groups on campus

Please join us in welcoming the following groups to campus the week of Saturday, July 3 thru Friday, July 9.

Boys’ Soccer Team Camp – July 5-8.
