ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS
Dwayne Safer, CFA, CFP®, associate professor of finance, recently passed the certification exam administered by the Certified Financial Planner (CFP) Board of Standards. He was conferred the CFP® designation upon successful completion of the exam, required coursework and performing 6,000 hours of professional experience related to the financial planning process. The CFP exam body of knowledge encompasses areas related to comprehensive financial planning including estate planning, education planning, taxation, investment management, insurance and retirement planning.
The Registrar’s Office welcomes the new associate registrar for undergraduate programs, Beth Moshier. Beth’s first day at as associate registrar was Jan. 10. She replaces Kathee Clark who has moved to the position of registrar. Beth joins the Registrar’s Office after serving at Messiah as a residence director, First Year Experience since 2017. Additionally Beth’s higher education experience includes interning in the Office of Human Resources and Compliance, teaching GEST 041 – Academic Strategies at Messiah, the Office of the Registrar at Taylor University, residence coordinator at University of St. Joseph and a therapist at the University of Hartford. Beth rounds out her professional experience at AIDS Connecticut as a medical case manager. Beth’s office is located in the Phipps Admissions and Welcome Center, Suite 107.
Ted Davis, professor emeritus of the history of science, recorded a podcast for Veritas Forum that was just released: https://apple.co/3qmXkQj. In late January, Ted will speak to a group of Southern Baptist clergy and seminary faculty at the Billy Graham Training Center at the Cove, in Ashville, North Carolina. The topic is “Evangelicals, Fundamentalists, and Science: A Brief History.” Ted is also recording a lecture course on “The Scientific Revolution” for Classical Academic Press (Camp Hill).
Dr. Kris Cravey, associate professor of business and director of the Graduate Programs in Business and Leadership, has resigned from Messiah University, effective summer 2022 to pursue a new professional endeavor. We are thankful for his many years of service as he has been instrumental in building our programs and assisting us in achieving ACBSP accreditation. With his resignation, we have assessed the best path forward for Business programming at Messiah. We have named Andy Babyak to a newly created role, assistant dean of business, at Messiah University. He will give leadership to both graduate and undergraduate programming, working with Jenn Fisler, dean of the School of Graduate and Professional Studies, and Pete Powers, dean of the School of Arts, Culture and Society. A search has begun for a graduate business faculty member who will also serve as coordinator of the graduate programs in Business and Leadership and who will report to Dr. Babyak.

New Psychospiritual workbook for graduate students and mental health practitioners
A new STAR: Spiritual Themes Assessment and Reflection Field Experience/Practitioner Workbook is available to complement an Apple Store app of the same name with no fees, ads or in-purchase requirements. These resources are the product of an ACPE MAP grant and Carol’s sabbatical work to help promote Spiritually Integrated Psychotherapist (SIP) certification now offered through Messiah University. Research on the usefulness of this new workbook will be conducted in the graduate counseling department’s field experience classes in spring and summer of 2022. Try out the app by searching for “STAR: Spiritual Themes” in the Apple Store.

“Reconciliation of Rivals” presented by Mendelssohn Piano Trio on Jan. 30 at 4 p.m., Parmer Hall
Mendelssohn Piano Trio, Stuart Malina and Sara Cyrus explore the creative rivalry between Tchaikovsky and Brahms through the juxtaposition of two powerful compositions inspired by personal loss. While both composers openly expressed disapproval of each other’s styles, they found an inspiring reconciliation on a personal level after meeting for a dinner on New Year’s Day in 1888.

Hiring summer student employees
In order to assist students with obtaining summer on-campus employment, the Student Employment Office will be holding a summer job fair on Thursday, Feb. 17, from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Departments hiring summer student workers should plan to have a representative available at the Job Fair unless all summer workers are already actively working for the department during the academic year or are being rehired from the prior summer.
Please keep the following dates in mind as you plan your summer student hiring:
