Please join me in congratulating Brenda Elliott on her upcoming induction into the 2022 Class of Fellows in the National League for Nursing (NLN) Academy of Nursing Education. The induction will take place at the annual Honors Convocation Gala on Friday, Sept. 30 in Las Vegas during the NLN Education Summit. According to the NLN website: “The NLN Academy of Nursing Education fosters excellence in nursing education by recognizing and capitalizing on the wisdom of outstanding individuals in and outside the profession who have contributed to nursing education in sustained and significant ways. Fellows are expected to provide visionary leadership in nursing education and in the Academy, and to support the vision of the National League for Nursing.”

Please join me in congratulating Karl Bergmann, director of the Doctor of Physical Therapy Program, on being accepted into the APTA Fellowship in Higher Education Leadership. The mission of this fellowship is to develop a community of visionary, innovative and influential directors in physical therapy educational programs to advance the health of society. The 13-month fellowship provides participants with the skills and resources needed to be an innovative and influential leader by addressing the breadth and depth of knowledge, skills and behaviors required to function as directors within physical therapy education and leaders in higher education.

Stay informed with The Chronicle of Higher Education

The Chronicle of Higher Education is the No. 1 source of news, information, and jobs for college and university educators and administrators. Get off-campus access, and mobile access (including an iPad app) if you register for a free personal account using your campus email account.

All Messiah staff and students already have automatic, on-campus access. Off-campus Messiah users will need to create a free account to log in to Chronicle.com. Go to Chronicle.com and Sign In to your account, if you already have one, for access. If you do not already have an account, follow these steps:

  1. Go to Chronicle.com and click on the “Sign In” link at the top, right-hand side of the page.
  2. Click on the “Sign Up” link to create a free account using your Messiah email address (username@messiah.edu). You also have the option to sign up for The Chronicle’s free email newsletters during the registration process.
  3. Activate your account by confirming your email address in the “The Chronicle: Confirm your email address” email.

Community Day

All employees are encouraged to attend Community Day on Tuesday, Aug. 16 from 9-10:30 a.m. in the Calvin and Janet High Center for Worship and Performing Arts. This annual Messiah tradition serves as the ceremonial launch of the new academic year for employees with opportunities for corporate worship and fellowship, as well as President Phipps’ presentation of the State of the University address. Refreshments and 2022 Community Day t-shirts will be available from 10:30-11:30 a.m. in front of the High Center. All offices and departments (with the exception of Dispatch) will close from 8:45-11:30 a.m. to allow employees to enjoy the Community Day experience.

Welcome Week 2022

The Office of Student Engagement is excited to host Welcome Week 2022 for all incoming new & transfer students. New Student Orientation will begin for all students on Friday, Aug. 19 (some students will arrive earlier through particular early arrival programs). Please be aware that there will be many visitors on campus the 19 as our new students arrive to Messiah. Orientation events will continue through Saturday, Aug. 27.

The entire Welcome Week 2022 schedule can be found via the Messiah University Guidebook app. In your phone’s app store, search for “Messiah University,” and download the Guidebook app. Within the app, use the “Find Guides” feature to search for “Welcome Week 2022” and download the schedule for this year.

New Transact eAccounts app available

The Transact eAccounts app enables your Android or iOS mobile device to be used to securely manage your Falcon and Dining Dollars account balances. It allows you to add funds instantly to your account from your laptop, tablet or phone.

Wanted

Wanted Wheelchairs. The Department of Conference and Event Services would like to obtain either free or at a low cost, several additional wheelchairs to assist conference guests who may experience some mobility issues when on campus. Please email Jody Brandt at jbrandt@messiah.edu if you or anyone you know might be willing to provide a used/ gently worn wheelchair. This is a great way to continue to foster an environment of hospitality on campus.
