Leah Clarke has been appointed the program director of the graduate program in counseling. As you know, Leah has been a longstanding faculty member in the program, and she has served well as the assistant director for the last several years. Leah’s administrative skills along with her understanding of and commitment to the program will be strong assets as she assumes the role of program director.

We are thankful to Heather Barto for her long-term leadership as program director and her continuing work as a faculty member in the program. Heather has also been with the program since its early years, and she has been a significant contributor to the program’s success.

Starting this fall, Maya Georgieva will take on the duties of the clinical mental health track coordinator, joining Kristi Mouttet (marriage, couple, and family) and Sarah Brant-Rajahn (school counseling) to provide good leadership to our three CACREP-accredited Master’s programs.

After serving faithfully and effectively as CMHC track coordinator for eight years, Carol McGinnis will be taking the role of admissions and retention chair for the program. Her enthusiasm for the counseling profession and constant care for students will serve her well in this role.

We also welcome Linda Gemberling as the field placement assistant coordinator to assist with school counseling placements. Linda has worked with many of our practicum students over the past several years and we are excited to have her join us in this new capacity.

All of the faculty and staff look forward to continuing to serve our students well as we adjust to the changes and advancements in the counseling profession.

AROUND CAMPUS

Employee Assistance Program

Perspectives, our Employee Assistance Program, has launched an app. Easy, confidential and secure access to the care and resources you need is just a click away. Please see the attached flyer for instructions to get started (access code: messiah).

Free COVID Tests

As we enter fall semester, please continue to carefully monitor your health and stay home if you are experiencing COVID symptoms. You can find our most up-to-date protocols at our Together@Messiah website: www.messiah.edu/together. While Human Resources will continue to offer free testing on-campus, we would like to encourage you to take advantage of the free test kits you can order through www.covid.gov/tests. Even if you’ve already ordered before, you can order up to three times. It’s extremely convenient to have the test kits on hand in the comfort of your own home.

Adjunct/work-study computers

As the summer comes to an end, ETS would like to ask you to power on all work-study and adjunct computers. Since these computers have not been in use during the summer, they will be slower than usual while updates are being done. Updates will happen automatically on the computers. If there are any issues, please contact Technical Support at techsupport@messiah.edu or ext. 4444.

Important update from the Office of Vocational Rehabilitation (OVR)

If you have a teen, adult child, family member, or loved one with a disability in PA, there is an important change in available training and support for their employment. Due to the shortage of workforce, and a surplus of some COVID relief funds, the PA Dept of Labor and Industry is ending the waiting list for applicants seeking vocational rehabilitation services! To learn more, here’s the press release: https://www.media.pa.gov/pages/Labor-and-Industry-details.aspx?newsid=715&fbclid=IwAR1wyg-qwUQtIgp5OLOKCXl-aGVP7HWWqQDGX3oRfZhSNcEJcVRmvp2pHFE
