Kaitlin Gill, assistant professor of nutrition and dietetics, has been elected to the role of president-elect for the Pennsylvania Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics. Starting June 2023 she will serve a three year term as president-elect, president, past president. The Pennsylvania Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics is an affiliate of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, the world’s largest organization of nutrition and dietetics practitioners representing over 112,000 credentialed practitioners (including registered dietitian nutritionists, nutrition and dietetic technicians, registered and other professionals and students).
Rick Schaeffer and Anne Reeve accompanied six students to the American Chemical Society National Meeting in Indianapolis last week. Sarah Mateer, Noah Smith and Marina Stevenson presented posters on their work done with Jesse Kleingardner. Dylan Cook presented his work with Rick Schaeffer and was recognized by the Division of Analytical Chemistry. Dylan McFeaters and Sydney White presented their work with Anne Reeve. Students also heard oral presentations on diverse areas of chemistry and biochemistry, enjoyed seeing new instrumentation at the Expo, and ate a lot of good food!

A moderated conversation with Jane Pauley by Messiah University President Kim Phipps based on Ms. Pauley’s bestselling book, “Your Life Calling: Reimagining the Rest of Your Life.” The evening will conclude with a moderated audience Q&A with Ms. Pauley.
A familiar face on television, one of broadcasting’s most respected journalists and host of “CBS Sunday Morning,” Jane Pauley is praised by audiences for her relatable and personal inspirational message. She advocates for people 50+ starting different careers, making a difference and pursuing their dreams. She is also a highly regarded advocate for mental health, children’s health and education issues. She fills the room with optimism and is warmly received by audiences everywhere. Prior to anchoring on CBS, Pauley had a 13-year career on NBC’s “Today” and was also a co-host of “Dateline NBC” for 12 years. Pauley has written two New York Times bestsellers. “A memoir, Skywriting: A Life Out of the Blue” (2004) and “Your Life Calling: Reimagining the Rest of Your Life” (2014). She and her husband, “Doonesbury” cartoonist Garry Trudeau, are the parents of three adult children.

The Midtown Scholar Bookstore has been a regular collaborative partner with the School of Arts, Culture and Society at Messiah University in a variety of ways and for a variety of programs. In recognition of that collaboration, the Midtown Scholar is now offering all Messiah University employees and students a special opportunity during any of their Author Events. Students and employees attending author events at the Midtown will receive a 10% discount on all café items and books upon showing a Messiah University ID. Spring Budget Forum
An employee strategic plan update and FY24 budget forum will be presented on Thursday, April 6 in Hostetter Chapel at 3:30 p.m. All employees are encouraged to attend.
The presentation will be led by President Kim Phipps and Gary Nowicki, vice president for finance and planning, who will share the University’s FY24 budget parameters as well as provide a brief update on the University Rising strategic plan.
PSYCamp 2023
We are excited to invite high school students (entering 10th through 12th grade in fall 2023) to attend Psychology Camp this year, June 25-30 (5-day camp)! Psychology Camp provides a fun opportunity for students to explore psychology and the question, “Why do humans do what they do?” This year, we are offering both an overnight residential option and a day-camp commuter option. This enriching summer camp environment will help students gain knowledge and explore various branches of psychology including clinical psychology, abnormal psychology, developmental psychology and biopsychology.

Babysitters available for service trip fundraiser
To help with the fundraising efforts for their upcoming service trip in May, the Poland International Service Trip team is happy to offer their time to provide babysitting services, in return for a donation to their upcoming trip. Cyber Camp 2023
Messiah University’s Cyber Camp is back this summer, taking place June 12-14. This day camp for high school students entering 9th through 12th grade will be a fun way to dive into the world of cybersecurity. We’ll cover topics such as cryptography, online behavior and privacy, data breaches, ethical hacking, and social engineering. Students will focus on the human factor of cybersecurity through hands-on cyber labs, simulations and interactive gaming scenarios. Plus, they’ll receive instruction directly from our cybersecurity faculty and industry experts, all while getting to experience an introduction to what college life is all about. 2023 fire extinguisher training
According to recent data released by the US Fire Administration for 2008-2017, the US had an annual average of 1,344,100 fires, resulting in 3,190 civilian deaths, 16,225 civilian injuries, and $14.7 billion in direct property loss each year. Don’t become part of these statistics. Fire extinguisher training will be offered on campus Monday, April 10 through Wednesday, April 12. Multiple sessions will be offered during these days. All training sessions will be held at the Kim S. Phipps Admissions and Welcome Center, Room 310, Trustees Boardroom, and will include hands-on use of the Bullex© Simulation System. This allows you to experience the “feel” of a real extinguisher without any adverse impact on the environment. Class size is limited to 25 so you must register. Young Peacemakers Academy summer camp
Messiah University’s Young Peacemakers Academy will host their residential camp from July 17-22. The Young Peacemakers Academy seeks to engage high school students who are interested in building and sustaining peace in a local and global contexts and provide them with Christian foundations for peacemaking. The cost is $649 for the week.
Campers will participate in service-learning in central Pennsylvania as they and experience social and economic peacemaking with community partners. The camp will also include a two-day trip to Washington, D.C. to meet global peacemakers at Mennonite Central Committee, the U.S. Institute for Peace, and the Carnegie Foundation. Spring is finally here! And we all know that springtime means… spring cleaning! The Agape Center’s international service trip team members are eager to partner with you to help you get your spring cleaning done!
This year, we are offering our spring cleaning/chores fundraiser the weekend of Friday, April 21 – Sunday, April 23. We ask that you consider enlisting the help of our student team members and, in return, provide a financial donation that will directly support our International service-learning teams traveling to Ecuador and Poland this summer.
We have a variety of timeslots available, beginning at 4 p.m. on Friday, April 21 and concluding at 7 p.m. on Sunday, April 23. Students will be available to assist you with a variety of your spring cleaning tasks (i.e., yard work, cleaning, painting, organizing, washing cars, babysitting, etc.). Please see the FAQ Sheet attached for more information on our upcoming service trips and this fundraiser.
