Five representatives from the graduate and undergraduate department of nursing presented at the 2023 National League for Nursing’s Nursing Education Research Conference (NERC) in Washington, DC on March 30-April 1. The conference focused on the future of nursing research as it informs radical change in the evidence of pedagogical practices. Nancy Frank, PhD, RN, CNE presented “Nursing Faculty as a Second Victim of Student Failure: A Mixed Methods Study.” Megan Gross, PhD, MPH, RN and Michaela Miller, senior nursing major presented “A Group Nobody Wants to Join: A Student-Led Peer Support Group After Courses Failure.” Brenda Elliott, PhD, RN, CNE, ANEF and colleagues presented “Assessing MSN Program Outcomes Through a Capstone Experience” and “Teaching and Facilitators of Learning Transfer in VBSN Programs: Faculty Perspectives.” Kristen Slabaugh, DNP, CRNP, CNE and Megan Gross presented “Understanding the Impact of Mental and Emotional Health on Retention of Undergraduate Nursing Students: A Descriptive, Longitudinal Study.”

Cyber Camp 2023
Messiah University’s Cyber Camp is back this summer, taking place June 12-14. This day camp for high school students entering 9th through 12th grade will be a fun way to dive into the world of cybersecurity. We’ll cover topics such as cryptography, online behavior and privacy, data breaches, ethical hacking, and social engineering. Students will focus on the human factor of cybersecurity through hands-on cyber labs, simulations and interactive gaming scenarios. Plus, they’ll receive instruction directly from our cybersecurity faculty and industry experts, all while getting to experience an introduction to what college life is all about. Young Peacemakers Academy summer camp
Messiah University’s Young Peacemakers Academy will host their residential camp from July 17-22. The Young Peacemakers Academy seeks to engage high school students who are interested in building and sustaining peace in a local and global contexts and provide them with Christian foundations for peacemaking. The cost is $649 for the week.
Campers will participate in service-learning in central Pennsylvania as they and experience social and economic peacemaking with community partners. The camp will also include a two-day trip to Washington, D.C. to meet global peacemakers at Mennonite Central Committee, the U.S. Institute for Peace, and the Carnegie Foundation. Spring cleaning? Let the Agape Center help you!
Spring is finally here! And we all know that springtime means… spring cleaning! The Agape Center’s international service trip team members are eager to partner with you to help you get your spring cleaning done!
This year, we are offering our spring cleaning/chores fundraiser the weekend of Friday, April 21 – Sunday, April 23. We ask that you consider enlisting the help of our student team members and, in return, provide a financial donation that will directly support our International service-learning teams traveling to Ecuador and Poland this summer.
We have a variety of timeslots available, beginning at 4 p.m. on Friday, April 21 and concluding at 7 p.m. on Sunday, April 23. Students will be available to assist you with a variety of your spring cleaning tasks (i.e., yard work, cleaning, painting, organizing, washing cars, babysitting, etc.). Please see the FAQ Sheet attached for more information on our upcoming service trips and this fundraiser.
Please keep in mind this is an entirely donation-based fundraiser; however, we’d like to recommend a donation of approximately $25 per student. Nate is a creative and innovative student employee who has made many valuable contributions including initiating and leading several projects, such as ‘The Word’, a quarterly newsletter and ‘Writer Talks’, an English program podcast that he created, produces, and hosts. Commencement help needed! On Saturday, May 6, Messiah University will host the 2023 undergraduate commencement. This is an exciting day for campus and particularly for the new alums and their families. Messiah University’s commitment to hospitality shines on this day and we need your help to make the day successful.
The Division of Operations is looking for employees, not already participating in the commencement ceremony, to work. We need bus hosts, field ushers, assistance in traffic control and other duties. The day starts somewhere between 7-8:30 a.m. (depending on role) and is expected to end no later than 2 p.m. (depending on role).
Hourly employees who work commencement will be paid at their current wage rate, and where appropriate, overtime will be applied. All hours worked are to be recorded on the regular department time sheet.
All members of the COE and President’s Cabinet are expected, as part of their regular assignment, to march at commencement and/or provide support for commencement activities.
