ABSTRACT
Home care is one of the fastest growing industries in the United States, projected to continue increasing as the population ages. However, there are unique safety concerns associated with home care compared to the more controlled hospital or clinic settings, such as driving distractions, potentially dangerous neighborhoods, and in-home risks categorized as environmental, biological, chemical, and emotional. Each home is essentially a new worksite with its own set of safety hazards, increasing the need for home care providers to be aware of safety risks in these ever-changing environments. Ensuring worker safety is essential to the recruitment and retention of home care workers. This article discusses safety risks unique to home care and offers solutions that increase the safety of home care providers. Education around workplace violence, implementation of evidence-based practices, and establishing and adhering to safety policies are paramount.

Trivia Night at Murray Library

You’re invited! Put your knowledge to the test on Friday, Sept. 22 at Trivia Night! Doors open at 6:45 p.m. and trivia starts at 7 p.m. at Murray Library! We’ll have four rounds of trivia to test your knowledge in a variety of categories. Gather with your colleagues and/or students to form a team or join up with friendly folks when you arrive. Teams can include up to six players. Awesome prizes await the top three teams! All Messiah employees are welcome.

Do you send emails on behalf of Messiah University (apart from Outlook)?

The Messiah University ITS team continues to add improvements that keep the University and end users safe from cyber threats. If you use software other than Outlook to send email to constituents off campus, we need to make sure your emails are included in Messiah’s DMARC policy. Even if you only send emails one time a year, we need to include the information in our DMARC policy. For more detailed information, please see the mass email on 9/1 titled “Enhancing Email Security at Messiah University.”

Questions to consider:
• Do you use a website, software, or program other than Outlook to send email to external groups?
• Does your office have a service account or group mailbox that is listed as the sender for emails to external sources?
• Does the website, software or program you use send emails notifications as you (i.e. you@messiah.edu responded to your request)?

1. Contact your vendors and software providers and request the following information:
A. Vendor DNS Record
B. IP Address for Public Mail Servers
2. Forward that information to security@messiah.edu.

B. Include the Vendor Name, DNS Record, and IP Addresses.
C. It would be helpful to include the contact information for the account representative or support contact.

He also has international experience working on race, peace, and poverty-related issues in Africa, Canada, Haiti, Israel, and Norway, and is called upon frequently by media outlets to provide commentary on race relations and potential solutions. Lassiter is a member of the US Presidential Advisory Commission on Advancing Educational Equity, Excellence, and Economic Opportunity for Black Americans and currently serves as the executive director of the Pennsylvania Human Relations Commission. Sphinx Virtuosi: Generations

The Sphinx Virtuosi is a dynamic and inspiring professional self-conducted chamber orchestra that serves as the flagship performing entity of the Sphinx Organization–the leading social justice nonprofit dedicated to transforming lives through the power of diversity in the arts. Comprised of 18 accomplished Black and Latinx artists, a critical aim of the Sphinx Virtuosi is to evolve and transform the face of classical music through artistic excellence, pioneering programming and impassioned community engagement. Its members serve as cultural and diversity ambassadors for audiences and communities around the United States during national tours.

Inspired by the poetry of Langston Hughes and Julia Alvarez, this evening’s program will showcase the beauty and tradition of excellence inherent in classical music created and performed by Black and Latinx composers for many generations. Together, the Sphinx Virtuosi seek to uplift spirits through sharing the sounds that inspire us and transcend the boundaries of time, history and struggle.
