Three Views on the Atonement panel discussion

Thursday, Sept. 18 at 5 p.m. in Boyer 235

At the heart of the Christian faith is the belief that we can be reconciled to God and have the hope of glory because of Jesus Christ. However, not all Christians now or through church history have been in total agreement about the precise way in which this reconciliation between God and humans operates. To shed light on different historic Christian views of the atonement and to help us pursue the university’s mission of maturing Christian faith, a panel of area ministers will speak on Thursday, Sept.18 at 5 p.m.in Boyer 235 about how they view the atonement. Panelists are: Fr. Ricky McCarl, vicar, Good Shepherd Anglican Church; Rev. Matt Purdy, senior pastor, Carlisle Reformed Presbyterian Church; and Rev. Dr. John Yeatts, senior pastor emeritus, Grantham Church. All are welcome.

A Year of Focus on Unreasonable Hospitality

This year, the Division of Operations has embraced Unreasonable Hospitality as our guiding theme. At the heart of hospitality is the act of making others feel seen, valued, and supported. One simple yet powerful way to do that is with a handwritten note of encouragement. Messiah Press invites you to take part in our free card-sharing program – designed to help you extend kindness across campus. Select a card, personalize your message, and we’ll print, address, and deliver it on your behalf. Click this link to get started “Therefore encourage one another and build up each other, as indeed you are doing.”

“The State of Health and Medicine Today”

Thursday, Sept. 25 at 5 p.m. in Kline 120

The state of health and medicine in America today is not encouraging in many respects. Among some populations, rates of disease are climbing and life expectancy decreasing. There is a lack of confidence in health and scientific authorities. What is to be done about these problems? What’s the relationship between them? What might be productive future steps to improve the state of health and medicine?

Join us on Sept. 25 and listen to responses to these questions by faculty in Biological Sciences, Nursing, and Health, Nutrition and Exercise Science.

This panel is sponsored by the Messiah University Honors Program.

CultureCONNECT, The 2025 Annual Lecture

Join us Wednesday, Oct. 1, at 7 p.m. in Parmer Cinema for the 2025 CultureCONNECT lecture, “Inside Out Cinema: Destigmatizing Neurodivergence with Mahrya MacIntire.” Neurodivergence: “a natural variation in how the brain processes information, experiences in the world, and interacts with others.” Two-time Emmy nominee and DOC NYC 40 Under 40 documentary filmmaker Mahrya MacIntire was 39 and working on her directorial debut about post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and somatic therapy when she was diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder (ASD). Receiving the ASD diagnosis while filming prompted Macintire to ask: What might it look like if a neurodivergent filmmaker made a film about neurodivergent processing, all while using a neurodivergent lens?

Please join us for a riveting conversation with MacIntire as she discusses her journey as a filmmaker, neurodivergent human and advocate, and agent for change. Assistant Professor of Film, Video and Digital Media Tara Whitehead will moderate the event, which will be filmed by MacIntire’s Stillworks Pictures alongside Messiah University Film and Media Arts students. A member of the Producers Guild of America and the Television Academy, MacIntire serves on the Film at Mason (GMU) Advisory Board and teaches creative entrepreneurship at American University to MA and MFA students in the Film and Media Arts Program. She is currently in production on her documentary feature directorial debut.

Reception to immediately follow in Howe Atrium.

Time to upgrade to Windows 11!

As announced via mass email this week, Windows 11 is now available on all compatible PCs on campus to be installed at your convenience. This update is required and ITS will be forced to push Windows 11 onto PCs that have not updated (Tuesday 9/30 for desktop PCs, Tuesday 10/7 for laptops) which may result in some inconvenient down time as it completes. To avoid this, please install the update yourself before these dates! Please refer to the mass email for additional information and contact techsupport@messiah.edu with any questions!
