School of Graduate and Professional Studies – Summer Highlights
As we are now several weeks into the summer semester, we wanted to take a moment to highlight some of what’s happening on campus with the School of Graduate and Professional Studies (SGPS)! In addition to the hard work happening for our online students and faculty in many of our programs including social work and our business and leadership graduate programs, we are excited to welcome a number of graduate students to both main campus and our Winding Hill location this summer.
July Highlights
- Nutrition and dietetics welcomed its new incoming cohort with classes on main campus beginning this week.
- Athletic training begins graduate level courses on main campus and at Winding Hill for students in both the accelerated and stand-alone master’s program at the end of July.
- Graduate music is in the midst of in-person intensives. This week marks the third of six intensive weeks with two more to go during the weeks of July 13 and 20, taking place in the High Center.
- Graduate counseling, education, higher education leadership, music and nursing welcome approximately 170 online students to main campus for intensives during the week of July 20 taking place in Boyer, High Center and Jordan/Kline.
- As part of the occupational therapy field work I course, twelve students, two alumna and two faculty spent ten days at Zambia’s Macha Mission Hospital.
- Marks the beginning of Rachel Cornacchio serving as interim dean, School of Graduate and Professional Studies.
August Highlights
- Physical therapy and occupational therapy welcome their new incoming cohorts to Winding Hill for combined orientation on Aug. 20 with classes beginning Aug. 24.
- Messiah’s new dean of the School of Graduate and Professional Studies, Dr. Greg Ochoa, will begin on Aug. 6. Please extend a friendly hello to these students and the SGPS team as you see them on campus and at Winding Hill!
Coffee truck on campus next week
As a fun treat during our graduate programs “big week” of summer intensives, the On My Grind Coffee Truck will be here on campus for three days next week: Tuesday, July 21- Wednesday, July 22 – Thursday, July 23 in the Old Main parking lot 7 -11a.m.
If there is an early morning line, please wait until after 9 a.m. to allow graduate students to get coffee before heading to morning classes. All are welcome to grab a drink from the truck and each person is responsible for paying for their own beverage(s) iced or hot (coffee and tea options are available). As you see others in line, be sure to introduce yourself – it is a great way to get to know graduate students!
Employee Worship Service – July 28
Please join us for music, worship, prayer and a message from our employee community pastor, Stephen Gallaher, on Tuesday, July 28, at 9:30 a.m. in Hostetter Chapel.
