Professors Borko Rodic DSc, DPT, OCS, COMT, FAAOMPT and Michael E. Lehr DSc, DPT, OCS, COMT, CSCS, FAAOMPT were honored in Cleveland, Ohio during the American Academy of Orthopedic Manual Physical Therapist (AAOMPT)’s national conference. As members of the core faculty within the Doctoral Program in Physical Therapy, each was recognized with the distinguished honors of becoming a manual therapy fellow-FAAOMPT. After completing four years of advanced and highly specialized training in manual therapy, both graduated from the North American Institute of Orthopedic Manual Therapy (NAIOMT)’s fellowship program. In addition, the DPT program’s most recent CAPTE accreditation review acknowledged the content expertise of the faculty as a whole being a significant strength of the graduate program, while under the leadership of Karl Bergmann, program director, and Rob Pepper, dean of graduate studies. As core faculty within the DPT program, their professional development journey serves as a model for Messiah University’s health professional student body by embodying lifelong learning.

Enrollment management is pleased to announce that Tariah Rozier ’21 and Elizabeth “Libby” Curd ’19 will be joining our team on Feb. 10.
Tariah is a December 2021 graduate of Messiah with a major in family and consumer sciences education. She served as an RA while she was a student, as well as a diplomat with the HDFS department. Tariah was very involved in La Allianza Latina as well as the Special Olympics, acting as the service plunge day coordinator through the Agape Center. She has a special interest in serving first-generation students and Latino students which will serve her well in her role as admissions counselor for Latino student recruitment.
Libby graduated from Messiah with a human development and family science degree in May of 2019. In her time at Messiah, she served as an RA and SRA with Residence Life. Since graduating, she had worked at the United Methodist Children’s Home as well as Tuckey Restoration. The executive and communication skills she has capitalized on in those roles will help her excel as an admissions counselor.
Tariah and Libby will be filling the roles of Marianne Ramirez Gomez and TyJon Culclasure. They each left in early January to pursue new opportunities in their fields of study. We are grateful for their service to Messiah and our students and wish them well on the next steps of their professional journeys.

Student Employee of the Year nominations
The Student Employment Office is now accepting nominations for the Student Employee of the Year Award. If you have an outstanding student working in your department, please nominate them! Any undergraduate student employee may be nominated for the Student Employee of the Year (SEOTY) Award. Nominees will be judged by committee review and the following prizes will be awarded during National Student Employment Week in April:
• Student Employee of the Year- $150
• Runner-up- $100
• Honorable Mention Awards (2) – $50 each
In addition, the person selected as the Messiah’s Student Employee of the Year will be nominated for additional recognition at the state, regional and national levels. Messiah’s 2020 and 2021 SEOTY went on to be selected as Pennsylvania’s SEOTY!
To nominate a student employee for the SEOTY Award, submit a letter (1.5 page maximum) highlighting the student’s accomplishments and contributions as a student employee via email to the Student Employment Office. 2022 fire extinguisher training
According to recent data released by the U.S. Fire Administration for 2008-2017, the U.S. had an annual average of 1,344,100 fires, resulting in 3,190 civilian deaths, 16,225 civilian injuries, and $14.7 billion in direct property loss each year. Don’t become part of these statistics. Fire extinguisher training will be offered on campus Monday, Feb. 7 through Friday, Feb. 11. Multiple sessions will be offered during these days. All training sessions will be held in Hostetter Chapel, Room 113 and will include hands-on use of the Bullex© Simulation System. This allows you to experience the “feel” of a real extinguisher without any adverse impact on the environment. Class size is limited to 20, so you must register. “Reconciliation of Rivals” presented by Mendelssohn Piano Trio on Jan. 30 at 4 p.m., Parmer Hall
Mendelssohn Piano Trio, Stuart Malina and Sara Cyrus explore the creative rivalry between Tchaikovsky and Brahms through the juxtaposition of two powerful compositions inspired by personal loss. While both composers openly expressed disapproval of each other’s styles, they found an inspiring reconciliation on a personal level after meeting for a dinner on New Year’s Day in 1888.

Hiring summer student employees
In order to assist students with obtaining summer on-campus employment, the Student Employment Office will be holding a summer job fair on Thursday, Feb. 17, from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Departments hiring summer student workers should plan to have a representative available at the Job Fair unless all summer workers are already actively working for the department during the academic year or are being rehired from the prior summer.

Passport services on campus
Representatives from the Cumberland County Court House will be on campus at the Eisenhower Commons between 10:30 a.m. and 1 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 22, to process passport applications. PLEASE NOTE: the current time for processing passports is 8-11 weeks.
Applicants need to bring the following documents:
- Original birth certificate, PLUS A PHOTOCOPY OF THE BIRTH CERTIFICATE
- Driver’s license PLUS A PHOTOCOPY OF THE DRIVER’S LICENSE.
- Copy both front and back of the driver’s license on the same side of the page
- Non-PA residents also need to bring their Messiah ID along with a photocopy of their ID
- Completed application
- Fees ($130 check or money order written to the U.S. Department of State and $35 cash or check written to the Prothonotary’s Office)
- Photo services will be available. Cost is $10 in cash or check written to Messiah University.

Miller, pastor of Wesley Union AME Zion Church, will speak on “The History and Legacy of the Black Church.” All are invited to attend this event sponsored by the Messiah University Honors Program. Wesley Union is the oldest African American church in Harrisburg, and Rev. Miller has served there as pastor since 2017. He earned his B.A. from Livingstone College, MDiv from Hood Theological Seminary, and DMin from United Theological Seminary.
