Since retiring last year, Ted Davis, professor emeritus of the history of science, has been involved with three projects promoting the public understanding of the history of science and Christian faith. He was an advisor for an exhibit at the National Musuem of American History (https://americanhistory.si.edu/exhibitions/discovery-and-revelation) that opened in March. His lectures on “The Scientific Revolution” have been published by Classical Academic Press (https://classicalu.com/courses/the-scientific-revolution-its-classical-and-christian-history/). He is also an advisor for a very large exhibit on “Scripture and Science” that opens in January 2023 at the Museum of the Bible.
The Department of Nursing received official notification from the Pennsylvania State Board of Nursing that the Class of 2022 achieved a 100% first time pass rate on the National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX-RN). Additionally, the nursing program received “#1 Nursing Program in PA” from www.Registerednursing.org. Messiah University vehicle reservation reminders
All drivers must be on the Approved Driver List (FalconLink). This list is updated weekly. Please be sure to check the list prior to selecting drivers.
Contact Debbie Farver at dfarver@messiah.edu if you need instructions to become an approved driver.
Vehicle reservations should be made at least 24-hours in advance, so that they can be approved and prepared. Requests with less than 24-hours advanced notice cannot be reserved through EMS, and need to be completed by contacting Debbie Farver at dfarver@messiah.edu (office hours: 9:00-2:30, Monday-Friday).
When requesting a Messiah University vehicle, the following information must be provided to complete the reservation:
- Type of vehicle(s) needed (car, mini-van or 15-passenger van)
- Pick-up date and time
- Return date and time
- Destination
- Driver’s name
- Billing account name/number
For overnight/multiple day vehicle reservations, please contact Debbie Farver, and she will assist you in making the reservation.
Please be sure to cancel reservations as soon as you know they are not needed, so that the vehicle(s) can be made available for someone else who might need a reservation. Vehicle requests are often in high demand. If you do not cancel the reservation, you may be charged a $25 fee.
Please fill the vehicle with gas if the gas gauge is at ¾ tank or less, and be sure to get a receipt to include with the vehicle invoice when returning the vehicle. If the vehicle is not refueled prior to returning to campus, your department may be charged a refueling service fee of $25 per vehicle.
You are responsible for removing ALL trash, food, athletic equipment and personal belongings from the vehicle at the end of your reservation. The vehicle should be left in good condition for the next group to use, as we do not have an employee tasked with cleaning out vehicles between reservations.
When using a Messiah vehicle, please complete the highlighted lines on the green vehicle invoice card (included in the key bag given to you when you pick-up the vehicle). The following information must be provided on the card:
- Driver’s signature on front of card and printed name on back of card
- Beginning mileage
- Ending mileage
- Each vehicle is equipped with an EZ-PASS transponder for toll roads. Please note that the transponder is in the vehicle (yes/no).
- Indicate any notable damage to the exterior or interior of the vehicle

Photos must be taken on the Grantham campus of Messiah University during the 2022 fall semester.

Prizes will be given to the grand prize winner for each category.
Everyone is invited to an Open House on Feb. 16, 3-5 p.m. to view the winners!

CultureCONNECT, the 2022 Annual Lecture, “Public Radio Journalism – Adventures Made Possible”
Award-winning newscaster Korva Coleman will address the roles of journalism and NPR (National Public Radio) in today’s complex news landscape at the Department of Communication’s annual CultureCONNECT Lecture. Coleman is best-known for her work writing, producing, and delivering national newscasts for NPR’s newsmagazines All Things Considered, Morning Edition, and Weekend Edition. Be sure to join us on Wednesday, Nov. 9, at 7 p.m. in Hostetter Chapel Sanctuary for an in-depth look into the world of public radio journalism. Free tickets are required for this event. 2022 Annual American Democracy Lecture with Michael Dobbs
Please join us on Thursday, Nov. 10, in Parmer Hall, at 7 p.m. for the 2022 American Democracy Lecture with best-selling author Michael Dobbs. As a foreign correspondent for the Washington Post, Dobbs had a front row seat to the collapse of Communism, covering landmark events such as the breakup of the Soviet Union, the rise of Solidarity in Poland, and the Tiananmen protests in China.
Dobbs has written six books on the Cold War and World War II, including the widely acclaimed One Minute to Midnight: Kennedy, Khrushchev and Castro on the Brink of Nuclear War, on the Cuban missile crisis. His latest book, King Richard, Nixon and Watergate: An American Tragedy, was named New York Times critics’ “Top Book of 2021.”

Steel Magnolias is set over the span of 3 years and tells the story of a group of friends, neighbors, and clients of hairstylist, Truvy Jones. The beginning of the play focuses on young Shelby who is preparing for her upcoming wedding. As Shelby’s story progresses, we learn about her struggles with Type 1 diabetes, and her mother’s concern about her leaving the nest and starting a family of her own. Although the ladies argue and tease each other, their friendship and sense of community holds them together. We see this at various points of crisis during the play and, ultimately, at the end when Shelby decision to go against her doctor’s orders and have a child has dire consequences.
Estimated run time: 2 hours and 20 minutes. There will be one 15 minute intermission.

“Mocktails” will be held Nov. 15
The Office of Alumni and Parent Relations, in collaboration with the Career and Professional Development Center, announces our annual evening of professional development for students. “Mocktails” as this event is known, features networking education for students, followed by a networking reception with local alumni and employers. This reception gives students a safe space to directly apply and practice their networking skills with alumni, employers, and friends of the university.
Mocktails will be held on Tuesday, Nov. 15, from 6 – 8:30 p.m. in the Oakes Museum of Natural History.

Even if you are not a trained mental health professional, you can be prepared and know what to do when a mental health crisis happens.
