ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS
I am pleased to announce the promotion of Kate Oswald Wilkins to the role of dean of general education and common learning. Kate’s contributions over the last three years during our general education review have been outstanding and this change in title reflects her leadership, expertise and increased responsibilities for implementation of the new curriculum. Returning to past practice, this role will also serve on provost’s cabinet. In addition to her ongoing leadership of our general education programming, Kate will continue in her role as director of assessment. Please join me in congratulating Kate Oswald Wilkins.
Alison R. Noble, interim provost
Professor of Marketing David Hagenbuch recently presented a paper at the American Marketing Association’s (AMA) Summer Academic Conference in San Francisco. The paper, titled “How Understanding College Students’ Selling Motivations and Control Perceptions Can Help Develop Sales Professionals and Increase Higher Education Sustainability,” included data from a unique experiential learning course project in his Personal Selling course in which students ‘sell’ Messiah University’s Department of Business to the influencers of prospective college students, e.g., high school teachers, guidance counselors, youth pastors, and coaches. Over two semesters, the 37 students who participated in the sales project produced: 642 prospects, 1,396 communications, and 264 sales, which included things like displaying a poster about Messiah’s Business Department, connecting with Messiah business professors on LinkedIn, and inviting Messiah professors to speak to their classes.
