2025 Adjunct Faculty Award for Teaching Excellence

This is the fourth year of the Adjunct Faculty Award for Teaching Excellence, which is given to up to two adjunct faculty at Messiah University each spring. Nominations were solicited from all department chairs/program directors, and after careful consideration of these nominations, the Scholarship and Development Committee identified the following two adjunct faculty members to be honored with the 2025 Adjunct Faculty Award for Teaching Excellence at Messiah University.

Congratulations to Ben and Nancy for this recognition of excellence in teaching. The Messiah University community deeply appreciates the award winners, and all our adjunct faculty, for their role in educating women and men toward maturity of intellect, character, and Christian faith at Messiah University.

Dr. Savarino at Carnegie Hall

Dr. Damian Savarino, bass (professor of music) recently appeared at Carnegie Hall as the bass soloist in Mozart’s REQUIEM, produced by Manhattan Concert Productions. The conductor was Eliza Rubenstein from San Francisco and the orchestra was the New York City Chamber Orchestra. Since 2011, Dr. Savarino has appeared as a soloist at Carnegie Hall, with organizations such as MCP and Distinguished Concerts International New York, more than 15 times.

Hamon presents at TFS Conference

Dr. Raeann Hamon, distinguished professor of family science and gerontology, presented a paper entitled “What can I do with HDFS?”: A Career Exploration Activity at the Family Science Association’s Teaching Family Science Conference at the University for Peace, Costa Rica, June 12.

New development team member

I am pleased to share that Ethan Kim has joined the Office of Development as a regional advancement representative. Ethan is a ’23 Messiah University graduate with a B.A. in political science with a concentration in international relations and a minor in economics. Since graduating he has been working in commercial banking. Ethan is a Pittsburgh native and we are thrilled to have him back at Messiah! His new office is on the second floor of Old Main. If you happen to see Ethan on campus, be sure to say hello and welcome him in his new role!

Change in the CPDC

After 20 years of service to Messiah University, Joy Fea is leaving to pursue an opportunity at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Joy will serve as the director of Upper House Commons which “gathers the university community for spiritual, intellectual, and vocational formation.” The CPDC team will miss Joy immensely – she has strengthened the university-wide Internship Program, formed countless relationships with faculty, students, and employers, and has always inspired us to lifelong learning and improvement in our work. Joy’s last day at Messiah is July 18. Moving forward, please send all internship-related questions to Ashley Jones (ajones@messiah.edu), director.
