And they that know thy name will put their trust in thee:
for thou, Lord, hast not forsaken them that seek thee.

ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS

Welcome

The Operations Department is pleased to announce we have hired a new director of dining, Ron Gilbertson, who started on June 8. Ron brings extensive experience across the food industry, including leadership roles in both private and public-school dining programs. His background spans operational management, menu innovation, nutrition focused programming and building strong, student centered dining cultures. In this new role, Ron will oversee all campus dining operations, strengthen partnerships with students and staff, and continue advancing our commitment to high quality, inclusive and sustainable dining experiences. Please join us in welcoming Ron to the Messiah University community.

Dr. Emily Bingham promotion

I am very pleased to announce the promotion of Emily Bingham to dean of Campus Ministries and director of Christian Spiritual Formation, effective July 1.

Emily has faithfully served Messiah University through her leadership of Campus Ministries, helping students grow in their faith through worship, discipleship, pastoral care, and spiritual formation opportunities. In her new role, she will continue to oversee Campus Ministries while providing leadership for Christian spiritual formation initiatives across the Division of Student Success and Engagement.

As dean of Campus Ministries and director of Christian Spiritual Formation, Emily will help advance the university’s commitment to nurturing students’ holistic development by collaborating with campus partners to strengthen faith integration, support student spiritual growth, cultivate relationships with local churches and ministry organizations, and guide strategic efforts related to Christian spiritual formation.

Emily has demonstrated exceptional leadership, pastoral wisdom, and commitment to the spiritual growth of our students. This new role reflects both her gifts and Messiah University’s desire to strengthen Christian spiritual formation as a central part of the student experience.

Please join me in congratulating Emily on this well-deserved promotion.

Doug Wood,  vice provost for Student Success and Engagement dean of students

Welcome new admissions counselors!

I’m pleased to share Ty Cowan and Sarah (Johns) Myers will be joining the undergraduate admissions team as admissions counselors this summer!

Ty is a May 2026 graduate of Messiah, with a degree in accounting. While at Messiah, he served as president of Black Student Union as well as student body president for the 2025-2026 school year. Ty also continues to serve as the youth leader at his church in Harrisburg. He shares, “I desire to represent Messiah University in a way that is welcoming, informative, and reflective of its mission to develop students for lives of service, leadership, and faith.” Ty will be serving first year students in Western PA, Montgomery County, New England, and parts of the West Coast.

Sarah graduated from Messiah in December of 2025 with a degree in human development and family science, as well as minors in children and youth services and chemistry. As a student, she served as an ambassador leader within the admissions office and worked as a coach with Soccer Shots and as a program coordinator at Nemacolin Resort. She shares, “Whether providing tours, assisting with events or helping students navigate next steps, I value creating an environment where individuals feel genuinely supported and encouraged.” Sarah is getting married in early July after she starts, so we are planning to onboard her with her new last name, Myers! She will be working with first year students from Northeastern PA and Eastern/Western Maryland.

Ty will be starting on Wednesday, June 17 and joined by Sarah on Monday, June 22. Ty will be in PAWC 208-J and Sarah will be in PAWC 208-I. If you see them (back) on campus, please offer a warm welcome to these alum!

Blessings,

Shayna Mark, director of UG Admissions

BID FAREWELL

Celebrating Denise Albert’s retirement

After 26 years of faithful service to Messiah University, Denise Albert will be retiring at the end of June. Since joining Messiah in 1999 as part of the College Press Word Processing department, Denise has served in many important roles, including managing bulk mailings, supporting the mass email system, serving on the University’s safety committee, and providing exceptional customer service through Messiah Press. Please join us on Wednesday, June 24 from 3- 4:30 p.m. in the Bowmansdale Building for an informal open house to celebrate Denise and wish her well in retirement – stop in any time during that window to share your thanks and best wishes.

Lauri Norbeck retirement

The Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry wishes our natural sciences laboratory program manager, Lauri Norbeck, all the best in her upcoming retirement. Lauri has been with us for 7 years, which included an extremely challenging first and second year of adapting our laboratory program for COVID-19 social distancing! She took on every new task with dedication and a commitment to getting the job done right. Fortunately for us, she will continue as an adjunct in our department in the fall, but we trust she will find more time to spend with her family, in volunteer work, and in her hobbies during this new stage of life. Feel free to send her an email and congratulate her!

Farewell to Dominic Bornman

The Graduate Program in Nursing would like to bid farewell to Dominic Bornman. Dominic has served Grad Nursing as an administrative assistant since January, bringing valuable insight from his coaching background and making meaningful contributions to our team. We extend our congratulations to Dominic on his new role as special team’s coordinator and wide receivers coach at LaGrange College in Georgia. While we will miss his presence, we are excited for him to pursue this well-deserved opportunity. Dominic’s last day with the university was Thursday, June 11. Please join us in thanking him for his contributions and in wishing him continued success in this next chapter.
