Getting a new phone? Maintain access to your Messiah account by setting up a secondary MFA method!

The preferred method for Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) is the use of the Microsoft Authenticator app on your smartphone. This is the most secure and easiest to use option for securing your Messiah University account.

However, the Microsoft Authenticator app will not transfer your Messiah account between your old and new phone. It is highly recommended that you set up at least one additional method for MFA as a back-up such as a text message or a call to your personal cell phone. This will allow you to sign into your Messiah account and reset Microsoft Authenticator to use on your new phone!

Steps for setting up a secondary MFA method and how to regain access to your account if you do get a new phone can be found in our MFA FAQs at https://www.messiah.edu/mfa

ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS

“Peace Carol,” a composition by adjunct music professor John Devorick received its premiere at a recent concert of the Eagle Singers, a select choir from Eagle View Middle School, under the direction of Messiah alum Dru Deitch (née Kepner). Another composition by Professor Devorick, “Litanies,” will be published by GIA Publications in 2023.

Josiah Hatfield (beloved RD here at Messiah for the past 10.5 years), has accepted a position as assistant director of New Student and Family Programs at Butler University, which begins in early January. Josiah has been an incredible servant leader here at Messiah and his presence and ongoing contributions will certainly be missed! Josiah’s last day will be Dec. 22.

Additionally, Vic Canavra (former apartment RD of Fry and Smith) moved on to other job opportunities in mid-November and we are delighted that Jaz Velazquez joined the RD team on Dec. 1. Jaz served as a 2-year RA in Solly and Witmer. Her undergrad degree was HDFS and she will be in this apartment RD role while pursuing her master’s in Higher Education here at Messiah. Welcome, Jaz!

On Dec. 9, Brenda Elliott, assistant professor in nursing, co-presented a webinar titled “Integrating Veteran-specific Content into RN-BSN Courses” to members of the National RN-Baccalaureate Faculty Forum (NRFF). The NRFF is a national organization that supports faculty teaching in RN-BSN programs across the United States. The focus of the presentation was to discuss how nursing faculty can strategically teach content related to the military/veteran population and assess veteran-care competency of students enrolled in RN-BSN programs.

The Human Library 2023 – Unjudge Someone

Please save the date of Wednesday, April 5 to attend the 5th Annual Messiah University Human Library Project.

Immerse yourself in the pages of the books right in front of you. The 5th annual Human Library Project is where Messiah students, faculty and staff become open books, sharing their personal stories with readers. The Human Library™ is designed to build a positive framework for conversations that can challenge stereotypes and prejudices through dialogue. The Human Library is a place where real people are on loan to readers.

Procurement made easy

In the spirit of communication and education, the Procurement Services Office will be supporting a “Did you know?” section of the Intercom. Keep a look out each week for helpful facts and tips about procurement at Messiah University.

DID YOU KNOW?
All furniture purchases must go through the Procurement Services Office? Benefits are:
o Consistency across campus
o Preferred pricing through furniture suppliers
o Warranty provided
o Known quality and durability
o Assembly and delivery directly to your space

Furniture purchased for Messiah must withstand the heavier use of an institution. Often, cheaper furniture would need to be replaced more frequently. Furniture should not be purchased elsewhere without permission from the Procurement Services office. Call with questions ext. 6010.

Join us on Wednesday, Nov.30, at 5:30 pm, in Boyer 235, as Ty Bair shares his research on, “China’s Growth and Uncertain Future in Global Politics.” Much of the stability found in China comes as a result of the Chinese Communist Party’s ability to maintain a steady increase in economic standing for its citizens since the end of the Cultural Revolution. As recent signs that this growth could be reaching a stagnation point, will this turmoil significantly affect China’s standing in the global community as a cultural and economic influence? Ty is a Politics and International Relations major.

Theatre Department – spring musical announcement

Messiah University Department of Theatre and Dance is announcing a change to our spring 2023 musical production. While we were originally scheduled to produce, Little Women: The Musical, circumstances have changed that now prevent us from moving forward with this show. After careful consideration, the Theatre and Dance department will instead produce Stephen Sondheim’s classic fairy tale adaptation, Into the Woods. All currently sold tickets for Little Women: The Musical will automatically transfer to the new show. If you would like to cancel your tickets due to this change, please contact the Messiah University Box Office at 717.691.6036 or via email at tickets@messiah.edu

Based on the Brothers Grimm most popular folk tales, Into the Woods is a reimagining of what can happen when beloved fairy tale characters are thrown together while pursuing their dreams and wishes. The Pulitzer Prize- and Tony Award-winning team of Stephen Sondheim and James Lapine bring to life characters such as Cinderella, Little Red Riding Hood, Rapunzel, Jack (down from his beanstalk), the Baker and his wife, a pair of princes in search of their brides, and the big bad wolf who is on the lookout for his next meal. It intertwines these stories in increasingly dramatic and humorous ways and asks what comes after the “happily ever after” and whether the journey through the woods was worth it in the end.

Into The Woods
Music and Lyrics by Stephen Sondheim
Book by James Lapine
Performance Dates:
March 23-25, 31 and April 1 @ 8 p.m.; March 26 and April 2 @ 3 p.m.
*Estimated run time – 2 hr. 45 min with a 15 min intermission included
March 30 @ 10 a.m. special daytime school matinee performance of Act One of the show.

Mental health first aid training is being offered to employees on Wednesday, Nov. 9 from 8 a.m.-4 p.m. in the Jordan 1st floor atrium. To register, click on the “All Training Classes” card on FalconLink.

Why enroll in mental health first aid training? One in five adults will experience a diagnosable mental disorder in any given year. Even if you are not a trained mental health professional, you can be prepared and know what to do when a mental health crisis happens. Upon completion of this course, you will be able to help a student, colleague, friend or family member in need of assistance.
