ANCESTRY.COM LIBRARY EDITION WORKSHOP

Due to the large demand, the library is offering another Ancestry.com workshop, sponsored by Murray Library. You are welcome to attend. See the database description at the bottom of this announcement.

The library subscribes to the library edition of Ancestry.com. It is accessible to Messiah employees and students, on or off campus.

ERGONOMICS

June is National Safety Month. The safety topic for week #3 is ergonomics. Ergonomics is defined as the study of how a workplace and the equipment used there can best be designed for comfort, efficiency, safety and productivity. Here are some tips for office ergonomics.

The Teaching and Learning Initiative is pleased to announce our new teaching fellow, Amy Ginck. Amy has been teaching in the Department of Modern Languages for the last 17 years, including teaching online summer courses for the past six years. Amy brings a broad range of experience and passion for faculty development in areas including student retention, online learning, instructional technology and inclusive excellence. Amy will begin her term and join current fellow Brian Swartz in 2015-16.

For the past two years, Jennifer Fisler has provided excellent leadership to our assessment of student learning efforts on campus. Given her ongoing involvement with the Teaching and Learning Initiative, the Teacher Education Program, and as incoming chair of the Community of Educators, she will no longer give leadership to our assessment of student learning efforts. We are pleased to announce that Kate Simcox will add director of assessment to her responsibilities beginning July 1. Please take time to thank Jennifer for her excellent work and to congratulate Kate on her new role.

Student Affairs Personnel Changes from Dr. Kris Hansen-Kieffer, vice provost/dean of students

As we move into summer, I wanted to share some significant personnel changes within Student Affairs.

Engle Center for Counseling and Health

I am pleased to announce that Ellie Addleman has accepted our invitation to serve as the director of the Engle Center, beginning July 1, 2015.

Ellie brings 30 years of service to Messiah College in residence life, counseling and as an educator in the classroom. She is administratively gifted and has had a primary role in the Engle Center’s assessment process which has a reputation for excellence. She developed the new position of wellness educator and created a strong foundation for healthy sexuality programming at the College. She is committed to promoting a center dedicated to the holistic health of our students.

I am grateful for the excellent work that Dr. Phil Lawlis has done over the years to develop a health and counseling center that is one of the best among our CCCU sister schools. I am confident Ellie will continue and build upon this excellence.

In August, Mike Blount will be joining the Engle Center team full-time. Mike is replacing Ellie Addleman, but with a new title as counselor/program director for educational outreach, men’s character development, and the 6th Day Sexuality program. Mike has served as a part-time counselor for a number of years, and brings special expertise in counseling for sexuality identity, sexual addictions, and men’s issues. He has also been involved in the 6th Day Sexuality program since its beginning in 2011, and has great administrative, program development and assessment skills. Mike will continue to work in the Career and Professional Development Center in the summer coordinating the summer internship program.

Career and Professional Development Center 

Sarah Bartz has accepted a position of associate director in the Center for Career Development at Lebanon Valley College, her alma mater. Her last day at Messiah was May 15. With Mike’s transition to the Engle Center and Sarah’s departure, we will be hiring a full time career coach- internship program coordinator.

Student Involvement and Leadership Programs 

Ben Taylor will be starting a new position as assistant director of student life at Indiana University Kelley School of Business. He also hopes to soon begin Ph.D. coursework in philosophy of education/higher education. We will be hosting a farewell reception for Ben today from 2:30- 4:30 pm in the Larsen Student Union fireplace alcove.

I am pleased to announce that Kevin Villegas has accepted our invitation to serve as the director of student involvement & leadership programs beginning June 1, 2015.

Kevin is a proven administrator with many years of leadership experience in a variety of roles and settings. He will bring much strength from his current position of director of international student programs.

I am grateful for the excellent work that Ben Taylor has done over the years in his position to develop a strong program in leadership and student development and I am confident that Kevin will continue and build upon this excellence.

Intercultural Office

As Kevin transitions into the role of director of student involvement and leadership programs, we will be searching for his replacement. The position of assistant director of international students programs has been posted on the HR website. Please feel free to share this with any qualified applicants that you may know.

Assistant Professor of Music Dr. Damian Savarino will be singing at the Embassy of Argentina in Washington DC on Saturday, May 29, 2015. Savarino will be performing as part of a gala event to benefit the Maryland Lyric Opera Company, for which he is contracted to sing in July. The School of Science, Engineering, and Health announces a leadership restructuring in the Department of Engineering, effective August 1, 2015. Dr. Randy Fish will serve as assistant chair of engineering, with responsibilities in the area of recruitment. In this role he will liaise with prospective and incoming students and families and with campus offices related to student affairs before and as engineering students ‘come in the door’ to Messiah’s engineering program. Dr. Brian Swartz will serve as department chair of engineering. Brian’s role includes the traditional areas of department chair responsibilities, with the exception of those related to recruitment and course scheduling for incoming students.

Dr. Carol Buckley was honored with the “Distinguished Paper Award” from the Pennsylvania Educational Research Association. In April, she was invited to represent PERA at the American Research Association’s conference in Chicago. Congratulations to Carol for this noteworthy honor.

Marti Derr, associate professor of nursing (Clinical Track) earned certification in bioethics from Saint Joseph’s University in Philadelphia. The graduate courses addressed philosophical, theological, and political foundations for the study of bioethics.

Ben Taylor farewell May 28

It is with great sadness that Messiah College announces Ben Taylor will be leaving in June, to move to Bloomington, Ind. Ben will be starting a new position as assistant director of student life at Indiana University Kelley School of Business. Ben and Kerrie will appreciate being much closer to both of their families, but will certainly miss the close relationships they’ve developed with their colleagues here on campus.

A  farewell reception for Ben will be held on Thursday, May 28, from 2:30-4:30 p.m. in the Larsen Student Union fireplace alcove. If you are able to come by to say farewell, Ben would appreciate the time with his colleagues.

Symposium to be presented October 8

Heat Illness             

With increasing temperatures and more time spent outside working and playing, the potential for heat illnesses also increases. Know how to prevent heat exhaustion and heat stroke, know the signs of heat illnesses, and know what to do if you or someone else is experiencing the symptoms. Take the time to read the tips that could save a life.

Lyme disease – what you should know

In 2013, 95% of confirmed Lyme disease cases were reported in just 14 states. Pennsylvania was one of the 14, as were our neighboring states of Delaware, Maryland, New Jersey and New York. While 30,000 cases were reported to the Center for Disease Control (CDC), they estimate that there are closer to 300,000 people diagnosed with Lyme disease annually. Do you know how Lyme Disease is spread? Do you know the signs and symptoms of it? Do you know what precautions to take? Each year, Human Resources reaches out to our student population to assist in producing special “thank you” videos for the Employee Recognition Reception. This year, we reached out to the entire student population and asked them to tell us what they loved about Messiah or who they loved at Messiah. These tributes from our students were filmed and shown at the Employee Recognition Reception on May 6, and are now available to view online. Commencement schedule and details

The Commencement Committee is pleased to announce the 2015 Commencement weekend schedule of events for Friday, May 15, and Saturday, May 16, 2015 on the Commencement website at www.messiah.edu/commencement, including helpful details on Baccalaureate, reception plans, event tickets, and inclement weather plans. Members of the Community of Educators should have already received information from the Provost’s Office regarding their participation in Commencement weekend. Faculty, staff and administrators who are participating in the Commencement ceremony itself should have already received a memo regarding their role in the ceremony from the President’s Office.

To avoid safety hazards, please do not stop in the middle of the roadway to drop off your party. Graduate programs faculty attending the reception for master’s program graduates on Friday, May 15 at 7:30 p.m. in Hostetter Chapel, are requested to enter by the campus’ South Entrance (Creekside Drive) and park in Lot XX behind Hostetter Chapel and Boyer Hall. No parking pass is required.

For Commencement day, members of the Community of Educators and other employees who are marching in the processional or participating in the Commencement ceremony will receive a reserved parking pass via campus mail. Employees MUST show their parking pass to traffic control personnel upon entering campus in order to be directed to their designated reserved parking areas. All other employees who will be working the Commencement ceremony should ask their supervisor where their designated parking area will be that day. A shuttle service will transport all other guests between their parking areas and the athletic complex both before and after the Commencement ceremony. Read additional details on guest and disability parking.

Due to the significantly increased volume of traffic on campus for Commencement, the Department of Safety strong encourages all employees to arrive on campus early (no later than 8-8:15 a.m.) in order to alleviate being stuck in traffic and to help ensure they are directed to their reserved parking areas on campus.

The accounts payable office will not issue checks the first week of July due to the new fiscal year budget rollover. RESULTS OF GIVE ’EM A BREAK CAMPAIGN

Did you know that there have been safety recalls recently for baby furniture, including cribs, due to the presence of lead paint? Power reclining furniture due to fire hazard? IKEA crib mattresses due to risk of entrapment? TORO mowers due to injury hazard? Shark vacuums due to shock hazard? Hair-dryers due to electrocution hazard? Homelite electric blower vacuums due to fire and burn hazard? SKIN CANCER – WHAT YOU SHOULD KNOW

EHS Today had an excellent article, “Seeing Spots: What You Need to Know about Skin Cancer” by Sandy Smith. The article had a – examples of skin cancer. Although it can be deadly, most skin cancer is treatable, especially if you catch it early. Monthly self-exams can go a long way in identifying skin cancer for early treatment but you need to know what you’re looking for; so while some of these pictures may be unpleasant, take the time to view them to educate yourself on signs of skin cancer.

And because one of the leading causes of skin cancer is UV exposure from the sun, sun lamps, and tanning beds, in many instances skin cancer is preventable. By limiting your exposure through the use of sun screen, clothing and hats, and eliminating the use of man-made sources you can significantly reduce your risk of developing skin cancer. With spring here, time spent outside working and playing will increase; take the proper precautions to protect yourself from the threat of skin cancer.

Seven Family and Consumer Sciences students, Mrs. Sasha Roble (adjunct instructor in HDFS), and Dr. Raeann Hamon (distinguished professor of family science and gerontology) attended the Pennsylvania Family and Consumer Sciences Association Conference in Pocono Manor, May 1-2, 2015. Dr. Hamon and Sarah Ganung (FCSE ’15) also participated in a panel presentation (along with Dr. Sally McCombie–IUP and Mrs. Sandi Graham—Marywood) entitled “The Symbiotic Relationship Between FCS Teachers and Undergrad FCS Programs.”

NOISE MEASUREMENTS

Under 29 CFR 1910.95, OSHA’s Standard for Occupational Noise, we are required to measure the sound level emissions from noise sources to determine if hearing protection is required (or to prove that it is not needed). If you have any equipment in your area that was added in the past year that produces noise at a significant level* please contact Donna Fink to have a sound level measurement taken. Even if this equipment is similar to equipment already tested for noise in the past, a sound level check must be taken as noise emissions can vary slightly from one machine to another of the same make and model. Measurements must be made “under load” or normal use of the equipment. For example, a power drill may not sound loud when turned on, but when actually drilling into material (under load) it may generate high levels of noise. * A significant noise level is one that makes it difficult to hear someone speaking to you at a normal volume (without raising their voice). If in doubt, please contact Donna.

Investment Change Announcement Explanation 

The plan’s investment committee recently met to review the performance of plan investment choices. If an investment choice does not meet the established minimum standards, the committee reviews other alternatives with similar investment objectives to discuss possible replacement options. This important notice is to inform you that Messiah College Defined Contribution Retirement Plan will be making changes to the plan’s investment options as outlined here. This change is scheduled to go into effect the week of 06/15/2015.

How will this affect me?

During the week of June 15, assets invested in the prior fund(s) will automatically be transferred to the corresponding replacement fund shown above. In addition, all of your directives for investing future contributions in the prior fund(s) will automatically be changed to the corresponding replacement fund.

If there is/are fund(s) in the table above that do not show a prior fund, these funds are new additions to your plan.

Do I need to take action?

No. However, if you want to make changes to your account you can:

  • Change your investment directives to ensure that future contributions are invested in the investment option of your choice.
  • Transfer any balance in this fund to the investment option of your choice.

These changes can be made using either by:

  1. Using Personal Savings Center at standard.com/retirement
  2. Calling a customer service representative at 800.858.5420

NEWS

The Office of Graduate and Non-Traditional Programs is pleased to welcome Dr. Julie Gomboc-Turyan as the assistant director of graduate and nontraditional curriculum. This newly created position will oversee the curriculum development of our graduate and nontraditional programs. Julie comes to this role after serving for several months as an instructional designer at Messiah College. Prior to working at Messiah, Julie was on the faculty at Indiana University of Pennsylvania (IUP) for over eight years and gained valuable experience in curriculum design, program development, accreditation, online education, teaching methodologies, student recruitment and academic advising. Julie has a PhD from IUP in communications media and instructional technology (2012) with coursework in teaching in higher education, social media, online media and technology. In December 2014, she completed her second Master’s Degree (Art Education) from Penn State. She previously completed a Master’s in American Studies from Penn State and a B.S. in interior design from IUP. We are thrilled to have her in Graduate Programs and Non-Traditional Programs at this critical time of growth in this new role. Her new office is located in Boyer Room 157.

Please celebrate the April publication of a new article on the intersection of Family Ostracism with Christian beliefs and counseling in the Journal of Psychology and Christianity by Graduate Counseling Program Assistant Professor, Carol Z.A. McGinnis. This article was the fruit of research conducted for her Christian scholarship essay and can be located by using the following citation: McGinnis, C. A. (2015). 12th Annual Symposium to be held May 1

The 12th Annual Symposium of the School of Science, Engineering and Health will be held on Friday, May 1, in Frey, Jordan and Kline academic buildings. More than 150 students from within the school will participate in oral and poster presentations in sessions that are scheduled throughout the day.  A detailed schedule and program is available on the Symposium Website.   Celebrate the work, creativity and innovation reflected in the rich and diverse variety of oral and poster presentations. Many presentations will describe basic or applied research projects and represent the culmination of months (or years) of effort by graduating seniors. A number of presentations will highlight how talents and resources are being used to address needs in the developing world. Plan to join us to celebrate the accomplishments of the students!

Current employee meal plan ends May 15

This is a reminder that if you purchased the employee meal plan, the last day to use the plan this semester is Friday, May 15. After that date, any unused balance will be lost. Remember, you can use the employee meal plan at any of our dining locations, including Lottie Nelson Dining Hall, The Union Café, Café Diem and The Falcon.

Open enrollment ends May 15

Messiah College offers eligible employees a comprehensive and valuable benefits program. Open enrollment is the period in which eligible employees have the opportunity to enroll or change their options for health and welfare benefits. The changes you make during open enrollment will be effective July 1, 2015.

Anti-virus software changes coming from ITS

A new Anti-Virus program, Endpoint Protection, should have been installed on your computer.  ITS is now in process of removing AVG.  This should be automatic, but you may notice a black box pop up on your screen after you login.  It should close automatically, and it is completely normal.  It should only happen the first time you login after AVG is removed.  If you experience any issues due to these changes, please contact the Help Desk at ext. 4444 or check for updates at helpdesk.messiah.edu.

Key services reminder

This is a reminder from Key Services that any keys you hold and no longer need should be returned to Key Services in the Lenhert Maintenance building before the end of the spring semester so they can be removed from your name/responsibility. The Lenhert front office is open Monday-Friday from 7:30 a.m.- 4:30 p.m. Also, if you are a supervisor to students in work study positions, internships, etc., please remind your students that their keys need to be returned prior to their departure for summer (no later than May 15). It is the supervisor’s responsibility to ensure the students turn in their keys before leaving campus. Failure to do so will result in the department being charged the associated fines.

Any keys–regardless of whether they are held by employees or students–are subject to a minimum $75 fee per key if they are not returned and/or lost.

Professors Anne Reeve, Alison Noble and Rick Schaeffer, along with four students, recently traveled to the spring 2015 National Meeting of the American Chemical Society in Denver, March 22-26. Alison Noble chaired a session entitled, “Overcoming Obstacles in Student Learning in Physical Chemistry” and presented two talks: “Preparing Students for Effective Engagement in Group Problem Solving” and “How Is the Fluorescence Spectrum of a Pyrene Excimer Related to its Thermodynamics Properties? A Guided Inquiry Approach.” Rick Schaeffer presented a talk, “The Natural Science Capstone Course at Messiah College: A Holistic Interdisciplinary Approach.” Students Phil Roth and Lauren Martin presented their research, mentored by Anne Reeve, in a poster presentation: “Synthesis and Purification of Aspernigrin A Analogs.” Sarah Zwart, mentored by Alison Noble, presented her research in a poster presentation: “Characterization of Self-Assembled Monolayers on Zinc Selenide.” Anna Noble, currently mentored by Alison Noble, presented her research from last summer at the Cleveland Clinic, entitled “Effects of Sphingosine 1-Phosphate at the Blood-Brain Barrier.”

The Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry is pleased to announce its recent addition to the list of colleges and universities approved by the American Chemical Society. This achievement marks the program as one of excellence, and allows students in chemistry and biochemistry, who follow a specific degree path, to obtain degrees certified by the society. This achievement culminates many years of hard work, two significant self-studies and a site visit during this past fall semester. We are very excited! Please pass the word to any prospective students who might be interested in studying chemistry or biochemistry!

On Wednesday, April 15, Bob Madden of Messiah College Press accepted the 2015 Impression Award for Collaborative Service on behalf of the entire campus. The award is presented each year by the Association of College and University Printers (ACUP) for a significant institutional collaboration yielding a positive outcome. Messiah receives this honor in recognition for the collaborative spirit in which all employees approached the implementation of consolidating our campus printer and copier fleets last year during prioritization. Without the hard work and support of Learning Technology Services, College Press, and the entire campus community this accomplishment would not have been possible. Other contenders for the award included California State University in Sacramento, Harper College, University of Nebraska, Yale, and University California Davis. The award will be on display in Hoffman Building lobby until June 30.

Please welcome two new members of the Registrar’s Office:

Hilary Hoover, assistant registrar. Hilary is a 2002 graduate of Messiah College and she earned her Master’s Degree from Temple University. Hilary replaces Paula Maynard who is the associate registrar for graduate programs. She comes to us from her previous role as a program director for Catholic Charities, Harrisburg. As the assistant registrar, Hilary’s primary duties include the certification for all undergraduate degree candidates. Hilary, her husband Matthew ’02 and their daughter Madelyn reside in Harrisburg.

Laura Julius, administrative assistant to the registrar and coordinator of student retention, replaces Peg Beckley who retired at the end of February. Laura earned her undergraduate degree at Penn State University. She will complete her Messiah College Master’s degree in Higher Education next month. For the past two years, Laura has served as the graduate assistant for student retention. Laura’s primary duties include support for student retention initiatives and providing service to students and faculty as a team member of the Registrar’s Office. Laura and her husband Collin reside in Dover, Pa.

Peace Lecturer on campus today, April 23

Today, April 23 the Peace and Conflict Studies Program will welcome to campus Madeline McClenney-Sadler, founder and director of the Exodus Foundation. Rev. Dr. McClenney-Sadler is an advocate of restorative justice and reform of the U.S. criminal justice system, and her work with the Exodus Foundation specifically seeks to “stop the flow of African-Americans to prison.” For this work, she received a citation from the Pennsylvania House of Representatives in 2001. Madeline is an ordained Baptist minister and a graduate of Howard University Divinity School and Duke University (PhD in Old Testament Studies).

Rev. Dr. McClenney-Sadler will preach in common chapel, and she will lead an alternate chapel at 7 p.m. in Frey 110. An informal time to meet and talk with Madeline over lunch (bring your own) is planned between 11:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m.in the Larsen Student Union Conference Room.

12th Annual Symposium to be held May 1

The 12th Annual Symposium of the School of Science, Engineering and Health will be held on Friday, May 1 in Frey, Jordan and Kline academic buildings. More than 150 students from within the school will participate in oral and poster presentations in sessions that are scheduled throughout the day. A detailed schedule and program is available on the Symposium website found here. Celebrate the work, creativity and innovation reflected in the rich and diverse variety of oral and poster presentations. Many presentations will describe basic or applied research projects and represent the culmination of months (or years) of effort by graduating seniors. Larry M. Lake, director of Writing Across the Curriculum, attended the Associated Writers and Writing Programs convention in Minneapolis, April 9-11. He participated in the session “Neither Here Nor There: Third Culture Writers and Writing,” and attended readings by Stuart Dybek, Charles Baxter, Louise Erdrich, and Francine Prose. The AWP Conference and Bookfair is the largest literary conference in North America. This year’s conference was attended by over 12,000 participants, and featured 550 presentations, readings, lectures, panel discussions, book signings and receptions.

The Office of Alumni and Parent Relations is pleased to welcome Shardé Hardy as the new assistant director. Shardé is currently teaching two classes in the Communication Department but will begin full-time in our office at the end of the semester. Prior to working at Messiah, Shardé was an adjunct instructor at Bluefield College and worked as the Bonner Scholar Coordinator at Concord University. She also worked as the Director of Bonner and Community Outreach at Bluefield prior to getting her Master’s in Media Studies from Penn State University.  Since she already has an email account, feel free to drop her a note and make her feel welcome.   • Short Term Disability: The ten-day waiting period for short term disability is increasing to fifteen days.

The elections you make during open enrollment will become effective July 1, 2015 and remain in effect for the entire year (July 1, 2015 through June 30, 2016) unless you experience a life status change such as marriage, divorce, birth of a child, death in the family, etc.

Congratulations to the Department of Visual Arts! As the winner in the Safety Contest, the department will receive $500 in their budget for safety improvements and the employees will receive a safety break. Included in their notable safety accomplishments were better organization and storage for items such as scrap metal used in the sculpture studio; replacing the use of mineral spirits in painting with vegetable oil, thus eliminating a flammable solvent and generation of a hazardous waste; the use of all non-toxic inks in the fall printmaking course; more widespread use of personal protective equipment such as goggles and gloves; improved safety signage in all studios; and disposal of many items that are no longer used to reduce clutter and improve housekeeping. Department of Education to sponsor Honors Presentation this afternoon

The Department of Education is pleased to sponsor an Honors Presentation today, April 9, in Boyer 131, from 5:30-6:30 p.m. Melissa Landis will present “’Sound it Out:’ Connecting Students’ Spoken Language to Academic Writing.” In this presentation, Melissa will seek to start the conversation about how to connect students’ language experience with their academic writing.

Brahms’ Requiem – April 17 in Parmer Hall

Messiah College is hosting a special performance of Brahms’ Requiem on April 17 at 8 p.m. in Parmer Hall, performed by The Harrisburg Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Stuart Malina; the Messiah College Concert Choir, the Messiah College Choral Arts Society, and the Susquehanna Chorale, Ensemble-in-Residence at Messiah College, conducted by Linda Tedford.

In contrast to the heaven-storming, fire and brimstone Requiems of the likes of Berlioz and Verdi, Johannes Brahms’ “A German Requiem” is a work of peaceful consolation and surpassing beauty. These performances will be sung in English. On the first half, the Harrisburg Symphony Orchestra presents the 1st Symphony of Pulitzer Prize-winning American composer, Kevin Puts.

Postage stamp and metered postage changes on campus

Beginning Friday, April 17, 2015 the Campus Store will no longer sell postage stamps or metered postage. Employees or departments who are in need of these items will have four options going forward:

  • Beginning April 20, metered postage and postage stamps can be purchased at the service window of the Messiah College Post Office in the Eisenhower Campus Center. Service window hours are Monday through Friday, 9:30 a.m.-4 p.m. and our phone ext. is 6026.
  • Stamps can be purchased using One$ource using our newly created Messiah Post Office store front (Search Messiah Post Office). Orders will be charged back automatically and delivered through regular campus mail.
  • Postage can be purchased online at https://store.usps.com/store/ using a purchasing card. Please allow 5-6 days for delivery. Stamps will arrive to your suite number via campus mail by Priority Mail.
  • Postage can be purchased at the Grantham Post Office at 1 College Ave, Grantham, PA 17027 (717) 766-0953 Hours: Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m.-noon and 1-4 p.m.

Please note: the post office service window in the campus center is open to all students and all employees and at times can be very busy, especially between classes. A second service window at the post office entrance will be open from 1-3:30 p.m. for picking up mail. The second window is for mail pick up only. No postage will be sold from the second window.

The Campus Post Office can charge postage back to a department. We also accept Cash, Checks or Falcon Dollars.

Postage will not be available to purchase on campus April 17 (one day only) so that the transition can be implemented.

With this transition, we are also asking that all outgoing pre-paid UPS and Fed Ex Packages be dropped off at the campus post office instead of the Campus Store.

“Live and learn” this summer with Messiah’s undergraduate online courses

You can make the most of your summer and still earn the college credits you need with the flexibility of Messiah’s undergraduate online courses. Messiah’s eight-week online summer session, which runs June 8-July 31, 2015, provides a personal, interactive experience that works around your summer schedule. Messiah’s summer courses are completed in nearly half the time, and are discounted more than 50 percent as the same courses that are offered during the fall and spring semesters. Courses are open to current students (college-level, qualified homeschooled and high school students), employees, alumni, parents, community friends, and anyone who would like to further their education. All courses are taught by Messiah professors, offering an online educational experience that reflects Messiah’s commitment to academic excellence. Join us May 6 at the Employee Recognition Reception

Please join us Wednesday, May 6, as we gather to celebrate the commitment of those employees who have reached significant service milestones. This year’s Employee Recognition Reception will be held from 10 a.m.-noon in Brubaker Auditorium. Anti-Virus Software Changes Coming from ITS

ITS is changing its Anti-Virus software program from AVG to Endpoint.  This will happen between now and June 1, 2015.  It will be done incrementally, and the details are still being worked out.  This change should be transparent to the end users, but the AVG icon in the system tray will be removed.  As always, if you experience any issues due to this change, please contact the Help Desk at ext. 4444 or check the blog at helpdesk.messiah.edu.

2014-2015 Performance Appraisal Schedule

Performance appraisals for all administrative and staff employees, with the exception of employees in operations, are due on June 15. If an employee is leaving campus prior to June 15, the performance appraisal is due before they depart. Operations will continue to review their employees during the month of their hiring anniversary.

Customized appraisal forms have been established to better support the environment and requirements of different areas of the college. Other areas of the College will use the standard appraisal forms found in the Forms section of the Human Resources and Compliance website.

5th Annual Forgotten 5K, 1 Mile Mosey & Family Fun Fest

Come Run for a Child at the Forgotten 5K, Walk for a Child in the 1-Mile Mosey, and have some Fun at the Family Fun Fest, featuring a kids’ dash and the chance to learn what God is doing in the lives of orphaned children through their local church.
