New lodging page for Messiah guests

Conference and Event Services is pleased to announce a new, easy-to-use lodging page for guests of Messiah University. The previous lodging page listed local hotels, but required guests to call the hotel directly to book. Our new partnership with Campus Travel Management Inc. allows guests to book online with the hotel of their choice. Rates are listed, including any Messiah discount, after dates are selected for the stay. If you have guests coming to campus for meetings or events, please encourage them to use this new system.
The new lodging page is available at https://campustravel.com/university/messiah-university/
As a reminder, the Climenhaga Homestead Guest House continues to serve the Engle Center’s counseling team this fall. If you are using institutional funds to book lodging, you should NOT use the link above. Messiah has lower negotiated rates for internal use only. If you need to contact our preferred hotels for discounted rates, please contact Jonathan Bert in the Office of Conference and Event Services.

Breakroom changes

With the disruption created by COVID, some changes that were implemented as part of prioritization were conflated with changes that needed to be made due to COVID. One such change is the stocking of breakrooms. As announced in 2019, the University ended it’s leasing of breakroom coffee machines and will no longer be stocking breakrooms. Likewise, department budgets are not to be allocated to stocking breakrooms. The University will continue to provide breakroom spaces and refrigerators (where feasible), but we are each responsible for our own refreshments.

Notice of Migration of Murray Library’s Integrated Library Software System
Occurring June 25-29

After 20 years with our current system, the library is moving into the cloud with Ex Libris’ Alma/Primo product. Our data will start migrating over into the new system June 9. This means that we are unable to process any purchase requests or rush processing requests for new materials after June 8.

On Friday, June 25 until Tuesday, June 29, our circulation information, including holds, interlibrary loans, fines and fees, will not be available as we move to the new system. We will be able to check materials out and you may return your items at this time, but the library catalog will not reflect this information until we go live.

During this time, the current library catalog will still be available. If you have saved lists in the library catalog, you will need to download or print them, as they will not carry over into the new system. If you have created links to materials that take you into the library catalog (NOT links into databases), those links will no longer work. Those links will have to be established again once our new system is up and running. The good news is, that in our new system, there is an easy button to copy the permalink. If you need help with this, please contact your liaison librarian.

The plan is for us to be up and running with the new system Tuesday, June 29.  Thank you for your cooperation and understanding as we make this improvement to the services we offer.

Please email me if you are interested hbarto@messiah.edu.

Annual Laptop Tune-ups

Congratulations on your accomplishment this past year! Thank you for your patience and understanding as we all navigated new ways of utilizing technology to fulfill the University’s mission.

Laptop tune-ups are available again starting in this year’s May Development Week! These tune-ups are available for Messiah-issued laptops only. To encourage physical distancing in our new location on the first floor of Old Main, Educational Technology Services’ (ETS’s) Help Desk will extend laptop tune-ups throughout the summer. If you have any issue that you have found yourself ‘living with’ all year that you would like to address, please do not hesitate to reach out to the ETS Help Desk so we can help!

Tune-ups could take at least 4 hours to complete, and are completed on a first come, first served basis.

Call 717-796-4444 or email helpdesk@messiah.edu to set up an appointment.

New Dual Enrollment Educational Psychology Course

We are pleased to announce a brand new Dual Enrollment Educational Psychology (EDUC 203) course. Dual enrollment students receive a 90% discount compared to regular part-time tuition rate.
Please feel free to share the attached flyer to help spread the word!

Jigsaw Puzzle Library

Before the summer break, stock up on some puzzles! Joanna Hadley-Evans curates a robust collection of jigsaw puzzles available for swap/loan with colleagues on campus. Dozens of 300-2000 piece puzzles representing various seasons and themes are available – perfect for family time on vacation or as hot summer days require a reprieve in the air conditioning. Drop some off or take some home and return whenever you are done! Contact Joanna at jhadley@messiah.edu to arrange a time to stop by her office in Hostetter Chapel to peruse the collection.
