Alma/Primo

Notice of Migration of Murray Library’s Integrated Library Software System
Occurring June 25-29

After 20 years with our current system, the library is moving into the cloud with Ex Libris’ Alma/Primo product. Our data will start migrating over into the new system June 9. This means that we are unable to process any purchase requests or rush processing requests for new materials after June 8.

On Friday, June 25 until Tuesday, June 29, our circulation information, including holds, interlibrary loans, fines and fees, will not be available as we move to the new system. We will be able to check materials out and you may return your items at this time, but the library catalog will not reflect this information until we go live.

During this time, the current library catalog will still be available. If you have saved lists in the library catalog, you will need to download or print them, as they will not carry over into the new system. If you have created links to materials that take you into the library catalog (NOT links into databases), those links will no longer work. Those links will have to be established again once our new system is up and running. The good news is, that in our new system, there is an easy button to copy the permalink. If you need help with this, please contact your liaison librarian.

The plan is for us to be up and running with the new system Tuesday, June 29.  Thank you for your cooperation and understanding as we make this improvement to the services we offer.

I am looking for a house/dog sitter for two sweet dachshunds who are rescues so we prefer not to board. Dates are June 11-15. As far as the house-just looking for someone to take in the mail and water plants etc. The dogs are the main priority-not expecting someone to be home all day with them as we work outside the home too-they do like to snuggle in the evening. Please feel free to pass this along to students if you think it might be a good fit. I am happy to explain more about the expectations/arrangement. Please email me if you are interested hbarto@messiah.edu.
Thanks so much.

Important Employee parking information for Commencement day (Saturday, May 8).

  • Members of the Community of Educatorsand other employees who are marching in the processional or participating in the Commencement ceremony will receive a reserved parking pass. Drivers MUST show their parking pass to traffic control personnel upon entering campus to be directed to their designated reserved parking areas.

  • All other employeeswho will be working the Commencement ceremony will receive parking instructions with their assignment.
  • All employees coming to campus that day should use the main campus entrance.
  • Due to the significantly increased volume of traffic on campus for Commencement, the Department of Safety strongly encourages all employees to plan to arrive 15-20 minutes prior to their assigned work time, in order to alleviate being delayed in traffic, and to assist in being directed to their reserved parking areas on campus.
  • It is also extremely important to follow all parking direction and instruction from safety personnel while entering and leaving campus, as traffic conditions can change quickly and officers are not able to stop traffic flow to have conversation with individual drivers.
  • An important reminder—employees are notpermitted to schedule vendor visits, pick-ups or deliveries on the day of Commencement as it interferes with the increased and altered traffic flow on campus that day.

Psychology Camp provides a fun opportunity for students to explore psychology and the question, “Why do humans do what they do?” This year, we will offer both an in-person, day camp option, as well as an online option. While we will not be hosting our in-person campers overnight in a residential format, we are excited to welcome them to campus during the day and provide them a taste of what it is like to be a student on campus. This enriching, summer camp environment will help students gain knowledge and explore various branches of psychology including, clinical psychology, developmental psychology, personality and biopsychology. If you know someone who would be interested in attending, we invite you to learn more and register here: https://www.messiah.edu/info/21685/psychology_camp.

Reminder from the Key Services Department

If you are a supervisor to students in work-study positions, internships, etc., please remind your students that their keys need to be returned prior to their departure for summer. Keys may be returned in one of four locations.
• (Preferred location) The Lenhert front office is open Monday-Friday from 7:30 a.m. – 4 p.m. After hours, drop key in the secure mailbox beside the entrance door.
• North Complex fishbowl in the secure mailbox
• South Complex main lobby in the secure mailbox
• Witmer Main Lounge in the secure mailbox.
Do not return keys to the secure mail boxes at Oakwood Hills.

It is the supervisor’s responsibility to ensure the students turn in their keys before leaving campus. Failure to do so will result in the department being charged the associated fines.

If the student is assigned work/projects during the summer and has a need for their keys after May, an email must be sent to Key Services from their supervisor indicating the revised due date for the key.

Any keys – regardless of whether they are held by employees or students – are subject to a minimum $75 fee per key if they are not returned and/or lost.

Please contact Scott Zeigler in Key Services at keyservices@messiah.edu if you have questions about keys. Thank you for your cooperation.
