Ted Davis, professor emeritus of the history of science, recently led two sessions on “history and science and religion” for the Oxford/CCCU faculty development project, “Supporting Structures: Innovative Collaborations to Enhance STEM Research at CCCU Member Institutions.” He will also take part in events related to the opening of the exhibit, “Scripture and Science: Our Universe, Ourselves, Our Place,” including a session for journalists, at the Museum of the Bible on January 19. In that connection, he will lead a tour of the exhibit when the University Honors Program visits on January 21.

Brenda Elliott, assistant professor in nursing and Jessica Lahr, adjunct faculty in nursing (UG online), along with their colleague Sue Burt (Shenandoah University), published their research study examining home care providers (therapy, nursing, and social work) experiences caring for patients during the COVID pandemic. The study is published in the Jan/Feb issue of Home Healthcare Now and is titled “Walking into a COVID petri dish: Home care providers experiences during a pandemic.” https://doi.org/10.1097/NHH.0000000000001141

Travel reminders
As travel restrictions continue to lift, procurement services would like to remind you of the following:
- Please refer to section 6 of Messiah University’s Expenditure Policy prior to making travel arrangements for University business. Details include:
- General travel principles
- Air travel
- Travel by car/van
- A university owned pool vehicle must be used when available
- If not available, use the vehicle selection worksheetto determine the most cost effective alternative
- Employees must be an approved driver to use a pool vehicle or a rental car
- Travel related business expenses
- Travel related business meal expense guidelines
- Enterprise is the preferred rental vehicle supplier for Messiah University and should be used for regional and national university travel. Details here.
- As stated in the purchasing card manual, cardholders should notify the purchasing card administrator with dates and location of travel at least 2 weeks prior to departure. Plans will be communicated to M&T Bank to ensure out of area purchases are not flagged as fraud and declined.

Trivia night at Murray Library
You’re invited! Put your knowledge to the test on Friday, Jan. 13 at Trivia Night! Doors open at 6:45 p.m. and trivia starts at 7 p.m. at Murray Library! We’ll have four rounds of trivia to test your knowledge in a variety of categories. Gather with your colleagues and/or students to form a team or join up with friendly folks when you arrive. Teams can include up to six players. Awesome prizes await the top three teams! All Messiah employees are welcome.

Dining services is down a very significant number of student employees during the spring semester and they need your help! This opportunity is available to current full-time Messiah employees only. If you can serve in Lottie during one of the shifts listed below, you will earn $20 per hour and receive a meal voucher for use in Lottie, the Falcon, or Union (you may work in Lottie over your lunch hour with supervisor approval).

LUNCH Monday through Friday* –
11 a.m. – noon (5 openings each day)
noon – 1 p.m. (5 openings each day)
1 p.m. – 2 p.m.(4 openings each day)
DINNER 7 days a week* –
6 – 8:30 p.m. (4 openings each day)
*You may work one lunch shift and the dinner shift on the same day, but no more than one lunch shift per person, per day.
